Bandai Namco has released a whole bunch of new screenshots from Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, along with some new details about the story and gameplay.
It sounds like weather is going to play a major role in dogfights this time around. "Risky maneuvers like rushing through thunderclouds to wipe out enemy aircrafts or avoid hostile missiles are part of strategic action in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Players will need to predict and deal with different meteorological events. Lightning strikes or icing may cause system problems and restricted visibility. The game also includes details such as water droplets on the canopy."
As for the story, it's all pretty typical for an Ace Combat game: "Set on the same Usean continent as in Ace Combat 3 and Ace Combat 4, the story revolves around the Second Usean Continental War which takes place in the year 2019. Players will join the Osean Air Defense Force and get involved in conflicts that cannot simply be divided into good against evil. The humanity of the characters and the fight of manned vs unmanned aircrafts on the battlefield are part of the overarching storyline."
We're very much looking forward to this over the top flight sim, and these new snippets aren't making the wait any easier. You can see more on Bandai Namco's website. Are you excited for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown? Carpet bomb the comments section below.

I am expecting a crap load of planes to be sold as DLC for this I really am, or a plane pack which is 1 plane with different coloured skins. I loved AC Distant Thunder I wish they would have released them for a remaster as a trilogy or something
@Shepherd_Tallon yup, VR would be amazing with this.
I can't say this is on my wanted list but it does look visually good. I haven't played an Ace Combat (or similar) game since Ace Combat: Assault Horizon on the XB360 (I know its on PS3 too but I played this on my 360) and didn't play more than a few hours at most.
It was one of the games I was expecting to see at E3 as it was expecting to 'launch' (lol) this year...
My VR is ready! I just hope that it will play with the move controllers like flight sticks, why there is no such game?
It looks a bit plane to me.
I hope the 'upto 15 hrs' separate VR campaign, doesn't turn into a GT Sport fiasco.
@BAMozzy Unfortunately you played the version of Ace Combat that's nothing like the previous games, all ace combat fans agree that is was trash. If you play the previous games I'm sure you'll have a fresh perspective. Fans of AC don't even like to mention AH lol it's that serious. Sorry your first taste of "Ace Combat" was a game that's not even Ace Combat; only holds it's name.
For those who want to sh*t / "poke fun" all over Ace Combat, all I'll say is if you never grew up playing the original games on PS1 & PS2 then you will find it impossible to respect and appreciate this game and understand why some people actually like the series allot. When I was little I wanted to be a pilot, so Ace Combat games were an escape for me to live that dream. The original games had amazing music, characters, battles, stories, fictional planes and super weapons. There is so much more to AC than what's seen on the surface, when you play a AC game from start to finish you feel like you've truly been on a journey and like a hero. To be clear I'm referring to those who have never played AC.
@Nesstark88 Who said it was my 'first' Ace Combat game?? I said it was the last AC game I played - in fact the last flying combat game I played but certainly wasn't the first Ace Combat.
I was never a big fan of AC anyway - long before Assault Horizon that I picked up cheap - just because it was cheap but it certainly wasn't the first....
If you enjoy those games - good for you, I think that the 'best' ones are average and AH was just mediocre but I have never been a fan... AH probably was the game that put me off AC entirely...
@BAMozzy Ok, fair enough. I'm not in the habit of forcing others to like the things I like but I like to encourage others to give what ever it is, game, movie, tv series, a fair chance and after giving it a fair chance and they don't like it then that's their opinion and that's fine, doesn't bother me at all. What does bother me is when someone who has no personal experience with something speaks about it as though they have. Just of curiosity which ones did you play previously?
Nice, can see this game selling a few PSVR headsets! Not played one of these before, I wonder if this is a good place to start.
@Nesstark88 I can't remember exactly all the ones I have played but the first one I played was definitely in an Arcade and it was that 'name' that made me buy it on console. I think I had 1 of the games on PS1 and a sequel on PS2 (can't remember exactly which titles or numbered versions now). I also played Fires of Liberation on the 360 and then Assault Horizon so its not as if I haven't played any. I am not a big fan of flight combat games in general although they can be OK in small doses (preferably as a small section of a larger game rather than the main/only game play mechanic.
