Dark Souls Remastered Moonlight Butterfly Boss Walkthrough Guide 1

Bosses in Dark Souls Remastered are the cream on the challenging cake. Sure, fighting your way through a new area is no cakewalk, but it all builds towards beating the area boss.

Not only do these guys have an enormous health bar that you'll have to whittle down piece by piece, but they also deal insane damage. So much so that it's entirely possible you could get wiped out in a single hit.

They may even be surrounded by enemies from earlier in the level, or attack you as a duo. Just you wait until you face your first double boss – that will make everything you've faced up until that point easy by comparison.

In this guide, we're going to walk you through how to beat the Moonlight Butterfly, your (possible) first encounter with a magic boss in Dark Souls Remastered.

How to beat the Moonlight Butterfly in Dark Souls Remastered

The Moonlight Butterfly fires off four different attacks, all of which are magic projectiles. There's the standard fast-moving needle AoE attack, a slightly less standard three-pronged slow-moving homing missile attack, and the rare laser and magic fireball attacks.

If you can, equip gear that has high magic resistance – particularly if you're fighting this boss very early on. For characters with low magic resistance and health, these attacks can hit super hard and even one shot you.

You can block the standard needle attack, which the butterfly fires off most often, but you're going to want to roll out of the way of the homing missiles as they can cause serious damage. The fact they move so slow works in your favour though, as you can just roll as soon as they're about to touch you.

The laser attack is rare, and covers the entirety of the bridge you're fighting on, so you're going to need to roll for that one too. You can step out of the way and avoid the magic fireball if you spot it early enough though – you'll know it's about to happen if the butterfly flies up and pauses momentarily to charge it.

After firing off a few attacks, the butterfly will lower itself to the bridge as it charges up an enormously powerful AoE attack. This does allow you to fire off a good few attacks from melee range though, so don't waste your opportunity. As soon as you see magic surrounded the butterfly, get the heck out of there though because some insane damage is about to land.

You can attack the butterfly while it's mid-air as well, and you'll have plenty of opportunities too. Between each attack, it does pause for a second or so, allowing you to fire off a quick arrow or bolt. Even better, you could chuck a firebomb at it, but only do so when the butterfly has come to a complete stop. These move very slowly, and the butterfly is nearly always on the move. If one of these does hit it, it does decent damage though.

Follow the above steps and the butterfly should go down no trouble at all.
