Dark Souls Remastered Fire Keeper Souls Locations Guide 1

If you take damage in Dark Souls Remastered – which you will, a lot – you need your Estus Flask to heal back up. Unless you're one of those Clerics that can use Miracles. Lucky so-and-sos.

As you progress through your adventure, you'll likely boost your vitality or find equipment to give you more health, and will start to find that your Estus Flask just aren't cutting it anymore. No one likes to find that they need to use your Estus Flask twice to heal up from a single hit now, do they? Well, there is something you can do about that.

You'll find your first Firekeeper Soul pretty early on, and if you're not an idiot (like us) you'll hold onto it. Why? Because you can use it to boost your Estus Flask. That why you get more health each time you drink from it, and that's always a welcome treat.

In this guide, we're going to detail the location of every single Firekeeper Soul, so you can grab the lot and boost your Estus Flask right up to +7 – that's the maximum. Naturally, this guild will provide a few spoilers but it would be impossible to do so otherwise. So if you want to avoid them, stop reading this guide right now.

What is a Fire Keeper Soul?

A Fire Keeper Soul is the soul of a Fire Keeper (obviously!). There are three living Fire Keepers in Dark Souls Remastered – Anastacia, Quelaan, and Darkmoon Knightess. You can also find the souls of dead Fire Keepers throughout the game too.

The purpose of these souls is to primarily upgrade your Estus Flask, or to consume it in exchange for five Humanity. We wouldn't recommend the latter.

Dark Souls Remastered Fire Keeper Souls locations

Undead Parish

The first Fire Keeper Soul is located on an alter in the Undead Church, below the first bell. You will have to kill a really tough knight to get it, but you have to anyway to progress the story.

Blighttown

The second Fire Keeper Soul is located in Blighttown in a really difficult to reach location. Thankfully, it's right near the bonfire just in front of the Chaos Witch Quelaag boss fight.

You'll need to head up the scaffolding just to the right of the bonfire, then up the mill and across a small bridge into a small stone section. This place is savage because you'll have to avoid enemies that shoot toxic darts and those little fire dogs.

Individually, these dogs are relatively easy, but in this area they attack in packs. They also attack really fast, so you can easily be stun-locked, and this is without mentioning trying to avoid the toxic darts. Anyway, the soul is in a grate just to the bottom left as you enter the stone area.

Quelaag's Domain

Next up is Quelaan, Quelaag's sister who lives in Quelaag's Domain. She's behind an illusory wall in the chamber just beneath the bell you have to ring to progress the story.

Anor Londo

Kill the Darkmoon Knightess, the Fire Keeper in Anor Londo, to get this Fire Keeper Soul. Bear in mind though, that you will no longer be able to use this bonfire.

Firelink Shrine

The Fire Keeper for Firelink Shrine, Anastacia, can be found beneath it, in a prison. You can't kill her directly, but if you free Knight Lautrec in the Undead Parish, he will later kill her after you ring both bells.

In fact, he might kill her even if you don't rescue her, so make sure you head back to this location after you ring the second bell in Quelaag's Domain.

However, you can't pick up her soul from this location. Instead, you collect the Black Eye Orb, which you can use to summon Knight Lautrec from Anor Londo and kill him to get Anastacia's Fire Keeper Soul.

New Londo Ruins

The fourth Fire Keeper Soul is located in New Londo Ruins, on the right hand side of a narrow wooden walkway. Be careful though, as you'll encounter three ghosts in this area.

Duke's Archives

At the very bottom of the prison tower in the Duke's Archives is a locked door, inside of which is the Fire Keeper Soul. You'll know you're in the right area if there are octopus monsters. Sadly, you won't have the key when you reach this area, as you don't get it until much later in the level. So make a mental note of the door.

How do I use the Fire Keeper Souls to upgrade my Estus Flask?

You have to take your Fire Keeper Soul to a Fire Keeper who will provide you with an option to upgrade your Estus Flask in exchange for the soul. So we wouldn't recommend killing all three of them.

In fact, unless you kill Knight Lautrec before he kills Anastacia, she'll die anyway. So that means if you kill both Quelaan and the Darkmoon Knightess, you'll have no Fire Keepers to visit to upgrade your Estus Flask until you go to NG+.
