Far Cry 5 is Ubisoft's latest blockbuster release, and it's doing pretty well for itself so far. It debuts in the top position of the weekly chart, and has enjoyed the biggest launch in Far Cry's history -- in the UK, anyway. We're yet to see if this kind of success holds true elsewhere, but we imagine we'll see a similar story in North America.
It being the Easter weekend, the chart also sees a few games climbing their way back into the top 10 thanks to some holiday offers. Call of Duty: WWII and Assassin's Creed Origins, for example, have jumped to 6th and 8th respectively. Grand Theft Auto V just barely clings onto the top 10 this time -- is it finally phasing out?
Here's the latest top 10:
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 31st March, 2018
- Far Cry 5
- FIFA 18
- Sea of Thieves
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
- Call of Duty: WWII
- A Way Out
- Assassin's Creed Origins
- Forza Motorsport 7
- Grand Theft Auto V

Surprised Sea of Thieves is still up there and MK8D flew back again.
But the real story look at GTAV!
Wow, Sea of Thieves still in the top5. That's a surprise.
I'm betting GTAV will be at the top of the charts again in June-July. Testing out a UK sales theory
Ni No Kuni II already out of the top 10
Not surprised about FC5 - its a good game and looks stunning too
@BAMozzy I'm hearing conflicting things. Some find it great, others boring, repetitive and unfulfilling.
Good to see Sea of Thieves doing well, I've been having a lot of fun on that game and this as someone who tends to avoid online PvP games like the plague.
I bought Far Cry 5 gold edition yesterday as the DLC sounds fun and I'm enjoying the game so far. Number 4 bored the hell out of me but this is a lot better to me, the main story seems to be delivered in a not very engaging way and the side quests are laughably scripted, however the action is great and fun to play so I just switch my mind off and shoot bad guys 😁 and and @BAMozzy says, it looks stunning
@YummyHappyPills Its great if you don't like hand-holding and have some sense of humour too. The world feels massive and very little is given to you unless you talk to the people, find stuff in buildings etc.
I guess it is repetitive if you keep dying whilst trying to liberate a settlement - its not exactly 'easy' and there fore have to do it again but I am finding it a lot of fun and that's not playing co-op either.
@BAMozzy I think some people are saying its falling into the usual Ubisoft trappings, structure wise.
Ah well. Far Cry is infrequent enough that its no big deal.
@Cpt_Price there seems to be a large group of gamers who only seem to play a combination of GTA, COD and FIFA and almost nothing else
@YummyHappyPills It's definitely a Ubisoft game minus towers but it is very fun to play and in reality most of the critiscms of it's structure can be labelled at virtually every open world game.
@YummyHappyPills Well I guess that depends on what the 'usual Ubisoft trappings' are and maybe that depends on individuals own beliefs. To me, I feel this is a great game that at least has relatively decent mechanics, no towers to 'synchronise' the world so much more 'organic' exploration, and total freedom to explore.
I am finding it a lot of fun - not boring or repetitive at all. If you look at its most basic concept of killing bad guys, then I guess its repetitive but how you go about that can vary and also you can mix that up with some fishing, stunt racing, hunting, exploring etc...
Good to see a way out in there..such a good game😉
GTAV all the way down to No. 10! Is this a sign of the impending end of the world? The day it drops out I think pandemonium ensues.
@HungryWolf To be fair to it, as a fairly niche game, it is one of those games that the people who are interested in it all tend to buy it on launch day/week. It's definitely less of an evergreen title, but it's still done rather well for itself
Jesus, the blandness ...it physically hurts me.
@KratosMD Well of course Im seeing hot takes from gamers around the world. I dont know if I would enjoy it myself of course as FC4 actually out me to sleep at points.
Good to see FC5 at the top. It's great fun. Yes, it's "more of the same", but when "the same" is this good, who cares?
They've changed just enough to freshen it up a little, while keeping everything which made it great fun in the first place.
As a fan of lengthy single-player FPS campaigns, this is one of few remaining games to offer just that. In a world of endless FPS PvP clones, it's an old formula which seems fresh and new. Plus it can all be played in co-op. I'm more than happy to support such games.
I'm sort-of enjoying FC5, but they need to turn down the enemy spawn rate and dial down their super human vision! Good to see ACO still in the top 10 - I'm still enjoying that too. Shame Ni No Kuni 2 has already dropped out though
Watched a bit of FC5 today and it looks fun, but I began to get tired of it just watching after 10 minutes and I felt like I was playing FC4 again.
Still I wouldn't mind giving it a go, the American setting is really interesting to me, but I'll be waiting for a really deep discount.
This is an impressive result if digital data isn't included.
3 (Three) Xbox One (console) exclusives in the top 10 at the same time? And people still say that you don't have games to play on Xbox One
@YummyHappyPills i wasnt going to get it due to things missing like skinning animals to make holsters, pursed etc and from what i had seen the location looked bland compared to the lush jungles of 3 and 4. My mate got it and we have very similar tastes in games. He said he was loving it so i dived in and bit the bullet. Definately the best one so far in my oppinion. The game just feels modern and there are some great characters too. Like stated elswhere its the most open world farcry yet. You can tackle any area in any order whenever you fancy and its talking to the locals that open alot of the side quests.
@BAMozzy i completely agree.
I want to like Far Cry 5 but till burnt out after 3 and 4. I may get it with the price drop but my backlog is huge.
Sea of Thieves is doing better than I expected, esp for the UK.
Yawn!
@NecuVise Well Forza would have been bundled with every easter deal so that's hardly surprising. Pubg is an early access title that's coming to PS4 eventually and Sea of Thieves may lose it's player base once the game pass subs end. Plus lack of competition helps as well.
@Th3solution My bet is that the week God of War releases, GTAV will be kicked out of the top ten. At least for a week.
@NecuVise Yeah, I wish people would stop with that nonsense and just enjoy the incredible games that are out for all platforms. This 'us vs them' crap is just totally manufactured and has been an unfortunate blight on this generation.
@Turismo4GT It's always been like that even going back to the Sega v Nintendo days, even the ad's by the companies fed off it. Now it's driven by the media. Which console is more powerful, which platform has better exclusives and which runs third party games better. They claim it's giving consumer advice but really their relying on the clickbait and heavy comment traffic.
Wouldn't ya think NL woukd report on MK8D still being in the charts with FC5 at number 1, but sure, that, website, is on a holiday for the weekend/bank holiday.
Does pushsquare work in the same office? Can you tell us if NL close the shutters on a Friday evening and open on a Monday? Odd practice for a internet website with reporters all over the world...
Nintendoeverything can do it.... Loads of updates on stuff, but, nothing on NL. Just, it's weird cause they have such a following...
Anyway, I'll pick up FC5 in a couple weeks.
Forza Motorsport 7 is the big surprise for me. I mean, why now? it's been out for a while. I'm glad to see a racing game in the mix.
@HungryWolf JRPGs are a very tight niche in the West though, even when it's a "Ghibli game".They don't stand much chance against action, soccer and multiplayer games. I still think it will sell well enough: on PC it has sold some 60k copies, on PS4 the figure has to be at least the same, ... and 120k in just over a week is very good for a JRPG (in the West). I don't know how well it has sold in Japan though.
@YummyHappyPills You could say that about almost every franchised game though, the standpoint people have is a function of what [aspects] they choose to focus on.
Jeff Gerstmann from GiantBomb for example, focused on the Big Picture, where he more or less saw the same Far Cry game as in previous iterations. Personally though, my focus is on the accumulated smaller changes, that to me culminate to build up a very different game from the previous ones.
The 'structure' is partly what identifies a game as being part of a franchise. If a game strays away from it, some people will complain about it being 'too different' and not "proper", while others will praise it for being different. There's no right or wrong about that, it's just dependent on what you like or don't like.
@adf86 oh I know, I remember the 'Genesis does what Nintendont' days.
Why is everyone trying to explain to me why other people form a certain opinion? I know why, they looked and focused on different things.
As for my opinion on FC5. I dont have one.
GG Ubi, its deserved IMO. Just got past Faiths region last night, her cut scenes and character are really really impressive I thought, streets ahead of Johns
@bbtothe Faith is hands down the most interesting character I have come across so far.
@Splat Yeah wait till you fight her its very sombering
Fantastic sequel, certainly deserves to do well.
@bbtothe I already did and felt bad about it...
@Splat yeah its unfortunate Ubi is SOO hit and miss with their writing -_-
