Roguelikes are ten a penny these days, but rarely do they look or sound as good as Gonner, a roguelike platformer/shooter hybrid that's just been announced for PlayStation 4.

Luke Icenhower from publisher Raw Fury perhaps describes the game best in his PlayStation Blog post: "Gonner is a procedurally-generated 2D platformer with roguelike elements, following the largely misunderstood and altruistic Ikk on a journey to cheer up his only friend in this world – a giant landbound whale named Sally – by searching for just the right trinket in the deep and dark places nearby."

The unorthodox and challenging adventure has you using various heads, backpacks, and weapons to power up Ikk in different ways. "Heads will give you your base health and some kind of nifty trait. Backpacks will give you special abilities like high jumps or temporary invincibility. Weapons do exactly what you think they do," Says Icenhower.

There are also leaderboards and daily challenges to keep you playing, and the PS4 version of Gonner comes with a static theme to pretty up your dashboard. The game releases on 15th May 2018 -- just a few weeks away.
