As you might have guessed, Monster Hunter: World sold very well indeed in Japan over its first three days. To be precise, it sold 1,350,412 units, and that's without including digital sales.
This makes it the top selling PS4 game in Japan for last week. PlayStation hardware also performed well, surging from 44,910 to 140,432 during the same period. This is the best weekly result for Sony's console in the territory since February 2014.
We're still waiting on full sales figures for Japan, but it comes as little surprise to see Monster Hunter: World topping the chart. It has performed extremely well globally, finally capturing the attention of Western audiences.

Amazing numbers all around, higher than I expected. I thought MonHun would do about 1.1 million in Japan.
Is Monster Hunter: World the best first week selling game in Japan of all times now? If I remember correctly MH for 3DS did a bit more than a million in it's first week and was called the best selling game within it's first week of launch.

@Bliquid it would have done much, much, much better on switch. i'd say AT LEAST double the ps4 number.

I think it's the best PS4 launch, though, but could be mistaken.

@manu0 Even if that was the case, it's irrelevant. Capcom's trying to capture a global audience with World and it's done that. Capcom would much rather do 5 million worldwide than 3 million in Japan plus a few hundred thousand elsewhere.

Did better than Monster Hunter XX on 2DS/3DS at launch. That's really good for a home console game in Japan.
Is it expensive to maintain 2 weapon? I'm having a great time with my bow but I want to try another weapon, not in the expense of my main weapon though. I don't want my bow to be heavily underpowered when I'm back using it in the later part of the game.
Also, seeing expert monhun player (beta version) kill nergigante with bow only in 5 minutes on youtube is something else, I can't even defeat it with 4 players on the beta lol
And these are all PS4 sales since it wasn't released on Xbone over there. Well, maybe that's not even worth saying since even if there WAS an Xbone version, it'd have sold about 4 copies.
@Bliquid Yeah, which is just a bizarre thing for them to say since out of 5 of the core MH games (World being number 5), 3 of them are on Playstation. The series began and rose to be a phenomenon on Playstation.
