With the announcement of Spelunky 2 and Guacamelee! 2 during its Paris Games Week 2017 pre-show earlier today, Sony seemed to be making a statement: we’re still very much about big indie games. And honestly, Guacamelee! was such a huge hit (initially on PlayStation and then later on other platforms) that a sequel makes total sense.

The big addition this time appears to be co-op multiplayer, though developer Drinkbox Studios is also promising “new levels, enemies, bosses, gameplay mechanics, and more”. According to the press release, the story picks up seven years after the events of the first game, with protagonist Juan Aguacate living a happy life with his family. Sadly, that’s all short-lived when “his friend and trainer Uay Chivo discovers a new evil menace that threatens to destroy not only Mexico, but time and space itself”. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

The game’s coming "soon-ish", but it’ll be playable at PlayStation Experience 2017 in just over a month’s time. It’ll also feature HDR and 4K support on the PS4 Pro.
