Hate to say we told you so, but we did tell you so: Square Enix has revealed that its new third-person survival shooter Left Alive – which was announced during Sony’s TGS 2017 press conference yesterday – is set in the Front Mission universe, somewhere between the fifth instalment and Front Mission Evolved. Confirmation comes courtesy of various Japanese sources, including Weekly Famitsu – as translated, of course, by the ever industrious Gematsu.

Apparently the title will boast three protagonists – presumably those spotted in the title’s key art – and you’ll bounce between them as you progress through the story. You’ll be able to work through the game how you want to, and there’ll be various stages to pick from at any one point. As previously announced, Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinkawa has designed the characters, while Takayuki Yanase of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 fame has contributed to the Wanzer designs.

The game’s due out in 2018, and production is currently 50 per cent complete. We expect we’ll probably see more of this at either Paris Games Week or PlayStation Experience later in the year.
