Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will divorce Infinite Warfare and launch as a standalone PlayStation 4 game on 27th June, publisher Activision has announced. This follows a series of leaks regarding the release date of the Raven Software developed remaster which is honestly more of a remake in reality.
As per a marketing arrangement with Sony, the PS4 version of the game will launch first, with anything from two days to an entire month of timed exclusivity touted. Fortunately, the game is still bloody brilliant ten years after its debut, and is well worth revisiting. You will have to pay $39.99 for the privilege, however.
Ouch.

Hahahaha you can get the legacy version which includes both games for that price if you shop around. Old actiNoVision up to no good again. Well atleast the N Sane trilogy is a decent deal but they probably going to add CTR dlc for $39.99 on that too.
Remaster or remake 40$ is too expensive imo. Ok I'm not big cod fan and I played this game on ps3.For that price I will rather buy and play Hellblade,Uncharted expansion,Lawbreakers or something like that. When price drop than maybe.
Destruoid said it was a month of exclusivity
@dark_knightmare2 I've edited, seems to be some confusion.
Yeah if it's any more than £25 then I'm not biting.
Only $25.00 more than I'm willing to pay.
$40 is way too much, especially almost a year after it's already been out, and being a remaster at that. I'm so glad to be done with those games.
While $40 is too expensive, I'm glad activision separate it from cod infinite warfare. I think I'll buy it when its discounted.
I'll grant them that the graphics have been done a lot better than other remasters, but $40 is a lot for a game that's coming up to 10 years old.
Without the DLC anyone who buys this i hate you.
@get2sammyb This game is a rippoff and you still need to buy the DLC separate which is a terrible practice.
Is that $40 for a GOTY version with the DLC as its coming a year after release? Of course not. Its Activision.
Strange choice to release it the same week as Crash.
A little to late. $40 is way to much at this point. With CoD WWII set to come out in a few months, the sever pop already fragmented there's no reason to buy this unless you want to play the campaign. Even then 40 is too much for the campaign and really the only people who will buy it for that at that price are
1) People who haven't played it before and are interested in it.
2) People who no longer have their copy of CoD 4 or a way to play it and want to play it again.
Even if you bought the legacy edition of IW to play MWR you only paid 20 for it and that was before they added the 4 other maps and supply drop stuff.
@get2sammyb Also on the side their you goofed Infinity Ward didn't develope MWR Raven Software did.
Ive just finished Titanfall 2 and played its sublime multiplayer. Titanfall 2 cost me 20 pounds back in November and continues to get free map dlc. So no thanks Activision. No chance
What about all the people who downloaded it having bought the Legacy Edition, will they still need the IW disc to play it?
$40?! Sod that. The Legacy Edition will likely drop to 20ish if all the recent sales are owt to go by.
@Tasuki Infinity Ward did develop Modern Warfare - all Raven did was remaster it. Its like calling Shadow of the Colossus a 'Bluepoint' game...
@itshoggie I wouldn't be surprised if those who got MWr via IW would still need the disc. What's changed - other than its now being sold as a separate game. I guess you could buy the separate 'digital' version if putting in a disc is too much effort...
@BAMozzy But Raven Software built it from the ground up, IW didn't have anything to do with it. That would be like remaking a movie and then saying the director of the original movie made the remake.
Can anyone confirm do you have to be online to even play the campaign ?
@Tasuki They didn't rebuild it from the ground up. They may have replaced a few animations, a few cut-scenes, improved the assets but the game is still the core game that IW built. Its like taking an old B&W film an giving it some colour, cleaning up the film etc but its still a remaster of the original source.
A remake is something like King Kong (either) but all Raven have done is polish up the game that IW gave us and, admittedly, added some of their own content to monetise it. Granted they have done more than the lame studio responsible for God of War 3 - basically port the game to the newer hardware and increase the output resolution but its still a 'remaster' not a remake
@oatmealwarrior92 I don't think so. I am always online - or always have online access - and don't recall it needing to be connected to work. The only thing I need is the IW disc to play any part of it but I am 99.9% sure that online access isn't a necessity for the campaign.
@BAMozzy thanks bro , just a bit confused. I saw the box today at work and on the front cover on the bottom it's says internet required but on the back it said online play optional idk maybe it's an error on Activision's part .
What does dropping the soap mean in UK? Because in NA the expression of "dropping the soap" may mean something else...
@oatmealwarrior92 Internet is required for the online Multiplayer so for the full 'experience', its needed but I don't think its required for the Campaign.
Isn't the 'internet required' part also mentioned after the online transactional content that's not rated by the ESRB? If that is the case, then Online is required to access those as well..
Digital only ?
@BAMozzy Maybe people want to get rid of the game pushed down their throat.
@Tasuki Thanks, fixed!
Typical Activision charging this much they are pure greedy plain and simple but they know people will still buy it and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up high in the sales chart.
I never actually buy CoD, just rent them but I love things all WW2 and for the first time I plan on buying CoD: WW2, even the £85 digital deluxe version.
Activision just flipped off everyone who bought Infinite Warfare just to get Modern Warfare Remastered. I'm pretty sure it will still sell well regardless of that.
I will wait till $19.99.....no hurry
Cannot find it at Amazon... :/
@RedFinch same meaning, but here it's also referencing the Soap character.
We all said it would happen within the year and it has. Next up is crash racing if you spend £100 on the Nsane trilogy.
Disgusting liars. Go away.
But can you ever go back?
@BAMozzy https://blog.activision.com/t5/Call-of-Duty/Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-Remastered-Interview-with-Ryan/ba-p/10034443
Raven rebuilt it from the ground up. Unless you are calling raven liars.
"We rebuilt a ton from the ground up; from sound, to visual effects to make sure it would live up to the quality bar that our fans expect."
Not buying it at that price
@solocapers Rebuilding things like Assets, Audio and Visual effects still doesn't make the 'whole' game a remake. Its still a 'remaster' and still using the same core that Infinity Ward built.
A remake would entail that 'everything' was rebuilt - not just a portion of the game - that's why this is classified as a 'remaster' and NOT a 'remake'.
It would be fairer to include both Infinity Ward and Raven Software as developers - even the box art credits Infinity Ward
I would kind of hope that those of us who got the digital version with the previous CoD can use it without the other game, some something smells like they want just more of my money. Good thing I only ended up paying about $19 for both games.
Well recently you could buy the legacy edition for £25 so this is not a good price.
I have the mwr digital code that came with i.w unused but not the i.w disc. does this mean I can redeem the code on psn and it will work without needing i.w?
@solocapers Dude i have not seen more remastered map packs in a game then with COD. So i need to reward them for upgrading it once again nah i dont think so. And come on you cant defend these things microtransactoins and mappacks in a 10 year old game.
@Flaming_Kaiser trust me I'm not defending them. I wouldn't touch cod with a bargepole these days, their players are merely cash cows that are milked till every last drop of money is extracted. Mugs.
