Vib Ribbon PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Long before Shawn Layden trolled the web with a Crash Bandicoot tease, the PlayStation chief trolled the web with a Vib Ribbon tease. During his very first E3 appearance in 2014, the animated executive talked effervescently about the animal-based outing, only to not follow it up with an announcement. Of course he came good eventually, confirming several months later that the legendary monochrome rhythm release would launch on the PlayStation 3, Vita, and the PlayStation 4 as a PSone Classic. Wait, what?

Here’s what he wrote on the PlayStation Blog: “I would like to give you all the chance to celebrate this iconoclastic title by bringing to all fans, worldwide, the chance to experience the original Vib Ribbon. As a result of the ‘outpouring of love’ at the E3 name drops, our engineers have developed a way to bring Vibri to life on PS3 and Vita – we’re still working on a way to make it available on PS4.”

So obviously the platform holder never figured that out, but y’know what, sometimes it’s worth revisiting these kinds of stories to give the company a kick up the butt. Does the PS4’s success depend on a port of Vib Ribbon? No, of course not. But on a day where LocoRoco has been remastered for the platform, we figured it was worth bringing this up – not in a whingey kind of way, but in a “hey, you should get back to figuring this out” regard. Make it happen, Shawn!
