This sounds promising, doesn’t it? Murasaki Baby maker Ovosonico has announced its long-awaited next project: Last Day of June. The game – a puzzler about love and loss – has some big names attached to it, including musician and record producer Steven Wilson and Jess Cope of Frankenweenie fame. Much like the Italian outfit’s previous title, the art direction is heavily Tim Burton inspired.

“Relive June’s last day by traveling back in time through her paintings in an attempt to change the results of the fateful and final drive home by solving emotionally challenging puzzles,” the official blurb reads. The excellent 505 Games is publishing this one, and it’s due out at some point later this year – presumably we’ll see a little more at E3 2017 next month.

The timing of this announcement is interesting, as Sony did have a deal in place with Ovosonico to create Murasaki Baby, and it raises the question whether this was originally planned as a first-party title. Obviously we’re not privy to the terms of any contracts, but it’s fascinating how the Japanese giant appears to be shying away from indie publishing these days.
