We've learned very little of the upcoming God of War ever since its debut at E3 last year, but a listing for a Collector's Edition of the game on a German retailer's website may just shed some new light on things. Take all of this with a grain of salt of course, but what's listed here could be noteworthy.
The package is listed at a price of €199 with a release date of 15th January, 2018. That's a Monday which makes it a certain placeholder date, but the listing then goes on to describe what comes with this edition. You've got the typical steelbook case, a lithograph print, and a digital soundtrack, but then there's also a statue of Kratos and Atreus fighting in-game enemies called Helmsters, and a cloth of the world map.
What is most interesting, however, is the inclusion of a shield pack which contains three in-game shields. While Kratos has been equipped with shields in the past, they've never comprised a core component of the gameplay, so this addition to the franchise is something that could definitely mix things up in the combat department.
How would you feel about Kratos being a bit more defensive? Protect yourself from a harpy in the comments below.

The date is definitely wrong, but the collector's edition contents sound legit to me.
I hope there are 3 shields b/c of differences, not b/c they break in a couple of hits. I know weapon damage and breakage may be realistic, but I don't find it enjoyable.
I don't like the sound of it. For me GoW games were always about smashing things with brainless brute and gore, a shield makes me wonder how fast paced it will be. On the other hand it is too early to jugde and to be honest, since he has a son to protect now, a shield makes sense.
@rjejr Nah, the God of War weapons are always upgradeable, with abilities. I'm sure you'll be able to pick up enemy weapons like previous games, but you'll always have the 4 standard weapons. Probably 3 shields to represent 3 skill tree variations, offense, defense, utility/stealth or something like that.
@get2sammyb how you figure so? Too soon? Too late? Or do you got some inside knowledge you might share with us we won't tell anybody. I promise...
Makes me wonder if combat will be more Soulsborne? I mean, they're changing up a lot in this game, changing the combat to suit it might make sense.
I for one am glad they are changing it up. I felt it was starting to get stale.
@JAMes-BroWWWn No intel, just don't believe they'd release a HUGE major game like this so soon after Christmas/New Year.
@glassmusic For sure going by the trailer last year it seems like the combat is more Soulsborne which I'm fine with because the series needed a fresh start.
@get2sammyb true. Didn't consider that business thinking
I hope there's steelcase and artbook edition with no statue like horizon zero dawn and uncharted 4.
@RedMageLanakyn "3 skill tree variations, offense, defense, utility/stealth or something like that."
Yeah, that's what I'd prefer, fire resistance, ice resistance, knockback resistance, the usual. I'm just afraid everybody is going to start copying Zelda BotW now, or whereever Zelda got that from. It's annoying. Guess I should blame Minecraft.
@rjejr I hope not. The weapon breaking in zelda was tolerable once you got into the swing of things, and encouraged experimentation. I was ok with it once I learned how to slow motion dodge everything Not a good fit for a bearded god killer though! If anything it looks like it might take a few cues from Horizon....
