As work on Days Gone continues, Sony Bend is growing at a rapid pace. A report published by Oregon newspaper The Bulletin notes that the infamously low-profile firm is to occupy a new office this fall, as it begins to outgrow its current digs. Apparently, the studio has expanded from 45 to 103 employees recently, and it's showing no plans of scaling down.
The company will be the anchor tenant at a new 50,000-square-foot office that's currently under construction, occupying over half of its floor space. This hints at longer-term plans for the firm, as the article specifically notes that it has no plans to downsize after its current project's release, which suggests that the studio's days as a teensy team are now likely over.
There's no release date for Days Gone just yet, but we'd expect it to deploy sometime next year. And while there's some scepticism over the commercial viability of the project, we reckon that Sons of Anarchy crossed with The Walking Dead should prove an easy sell for Sony – assuming, of course, that the game itself is good.

This game confuses me. Anything involving that attire and a motorcycle has me in PTSD mode from Ride to Hell.
But I do admit having all those zombies on screen at once is nice. Though I do believe that was a tech demo in 2000 or so to show how many polygons can be on screen at once or something. Think it was Gamecube? I cant remember.
Still...I can't see the game looking fun. The footage just gives off mindless zombie slaying and yeah that's cool I guess...there has to be more right?
At least I hope theres more. I don't need another zombie game only this one has the Naughty Dog camera.
@JoeBlogs We definitely will.
@BLP_Software Well the two hooks are, as you mentioned, the horde AI and the motorcycle. I think we'll see the latter at E3.
@get2sammyb Yeah I'm probably more curious about the motorcycle. It cant be Ride to Hell jank, this is Sony after all.
Is it open world? I can't recall them mentioning that. I imagine it would need to be to justify motorcycling around like the 60s.
Still, cautious optimism on this one. It could be another zombie game, but with biker dewds, or it could be something interesting.
Just so long as E3 doesn't end on the same trailer of it they showed earlier in the show again XD
@BLP_Software We've only seen one trailer/demo so far...
I hope Sony can manage to space out Days Gone from TLOUP2 for obvious reasons. I bet Days Gone will be released early 2018.
@BLP_Software Yeah, it's open world. From what I've read, it has a big focus on survival. Gathering resources and building traps to keep you safe at night. No idea about the motor cycle or narrative aspects, but then again, we don't know a whole lot about this game yet.
For some reason I'm even more excited about this after the success of Horizon. I know they're different games by different studios but there's been a similar vibe about the way they've been revealed. It's a high bar to reach but what they've shown so far teases they can match it.
@Octane Survival huh? Okay, I can see that working out. Just have to see what they show next. Maybe they could've focused more on that USP than "Ooh look zambees"? Just that alone doesn't give a good impression. Now if they had it billed as the survival game it seemingly is from the start, well, most people would've remembered it's name.
Best foot and your USP forward, I think.
It's certainly one of the more interesting games revealed at E3, can't wait to see how it tturns out.
@BLP_Software There's still time for that, the E3 demo was only a teaser demo by the looks of it. It was definitely one of the memorable reveals for me. I think the horde of zombies was effective. Didn't work for everybody, but they have my attention.
This is really good to hear. Kind of feared that either them or Media Molecule would be the next to go.
Following Horizon's success as a new IP I feel Sony are going to back Days Gone fully. What they already showed looked great.
This could be the making of Sony Bend.
this game will be a masterpiece
Since Horizon:ZD has now released, this is my most anticipated Sony Exclusive. I know the Last of Us Part 2 is in development but I never took to Joel and found the story very predictable. Whilst I fully appreciated the artistry of the game, I am not as 'excited' by a sequel as I am for an Open World action game like Days Gone. Also never really enjoyed its MP. Uncharted: the Lost Legacy looks great too but can't help feeling that it will be kind of brief and Spider-Man could be great and looking forward to it so this is still my most anticipated exclusive at the moment...
@Octane Yeah that's true. It was probably the most effective way to reveal it. Not how I'd have done it, namely because zombies in pop culture? Lots of things on screen at once? Been there done that, you know? I do feel you should be a best foot forward approach when marketing games.
To be honest, this is a gamble for Sony but I am glad they ARE taking gambles and trying to create new IP's with their studios. Horizon hit a high bench mark and I think it will be hard for this game to hit it but there was enough here to give some interest and to give it a go when it releases.
It reminds me of Horizon - the early reveals didnt do much for me. The hook line was just robot dinos and bows and arrows. However, when we got closer to release and the story started to shine through, plus the lush world and intense combat it really sold it. I think the horde mode and motorcycle is the hook line here and hopefully a well thought out story and more features will emerge.
@BAMozzy Well i did not see the ending coming and never mind dont want to spoil anything for anyone.
I think it's going to sell really well personally if the game's good and the marketing's on-point. Like I said in the article, The Walking Dead crossed with Sons of Anarchy is a really easy sell. And open worlds are big.
Definitely excited to see more.
And if the game bombs they'll be shut down but not before though they're asked to make a new Vita/VR which also bombs.
@Rudy_Manchego To me this had the same impact that Horizon's first reveal had. The initial trailer didn't do much but that game-play had me hook, line and sinker...
The concept wasn't as impactful as those Robot Dino's were but the way it built up to the crescendo, so many enemies on screen at once as well as using environmental aspects to buy yourself some time whilst fleeing etc - it was just amazing. Had they just left it at the trailer, I would have been left indifferent but ending their E3 with the game-play was a masterstroke! Ever since then, its sat at the top of most wanted - only behind Horizon:ZD, which in turn sat behind Uncharted 4 until that released.
For me 2015's E3 left me wanting U4 ASAP and very excited by Horizon:ZD, 2016's E3 left me wanting H:ZD ASAP and very excited by Days Gone....
this seems like a positive sign to me that sony's got faith/confidence in the game and thinks they could be onto a winner - just as they did with horizon. as sammy said, a sons of anarchy meets walking dead vibe in an open world is an easy sell if the gameplay hits enough of the right notes. why allow the studio to triple in size and move into a much bigger premises if there's any inkling that the game will fall well short of expectations..
@BLP_Software it's not like a normal Zombie game where the Zombies are quite slow and sort of attack one-three at a time, Days Gone Zombies are a lot faster and attack in massive swarms like it shows on the trailer.
Can't wait for this to release
@playstation1995 How? And why? We diden't see any thing new on this game
Masterpiece needs new ideas and new things
But every thing we saw on E3 demo was repetitive! So i have no idea how this game could be a masterpiece
@pbernoos Maybe like how the IPhone didn't do anything new but renovated the existing ideas to new height?
We haven't seen much of this game but all the gaming journalist & personality that I trust (including Push Square) have high praise on the development on this game... I'm excited by that!
@whywai88 we are talking about video games
Video games are some king of art , and in art what great is new things ans new ideas
Look at half life or bioshock they have some thing new on themsefl
And tahts what makes them masterpiece! Do you remember the first trailer of bioshock Infinite? We knew some thing is coming to change gaming world
But this game is not that much special to call it masterpiece , it's soon to comment about this topic
I don't mean it's not a good game but it's not masterpiece
@Eternallover21 don't wish for any of that but it's standard practice for studios that flop
Kudos to Sony Bend. Great studio with great titles.
