Borderlands 3 PS4 PlayStation 4 Gearbox 1

Gearbox clearly should have prioritised Borderlands 3 ahead of Battleborn, but what's done is done, and the good news is that the studio is finally forging ahead with the loot shooter sequel. Boss Randy Pitchford took to the stage during an Unreal Engine panel at GDC 2017 today to reveal a little more about the title – much to the surprise of, well, everyone.

The panel was definitely more focused on tech than any gameplay reveals, but if you watch the full presentation on Polygon, it's pretty clear that what's being shown is Borderlands 3; Pitchford even made a joke about a particular character model's face being obscured – it's obviously not ready to reveal too much just yet.

We've known that Borderlands 3 has been in the early stages of development for some time, with Battleborn art director Scott Kester heading up the project and Mikey Neumann penning the plot. Could we see the sequel as soon as E3 2017? Some kind of teaser trailer seems likely, doesn't it? In the meantime, you'll have to make do with these low-quality screen grabs.
