Love this level. Music seems on point too.
Looking good so far.
Looking good.
Looks pretty much perfect.
Pretty good so far (2 down, 1 to go!)
Huge improvement on an otherwise fantastic game.
I don't want 'fans' to take it the wrong way and I know the 'quality' of the video is going to be the actual quality of the game, but I really don't think its as 'good' as something like R&C in terms of a visual treat. That's not to say it isn't a vast improvement over the originals but its not necessarily what I would call PS4 quality. I am sure it will be 1080p but it looks more like a PS3 standard with a higher resolution count.
As I said, I don't want people to have a go because I said that and I know visuals are not as important as game-play etc etc. Its just lacking the visual quality we have come to expect - things like lighting, shadows, textures etc - especially after playing Horizon...
Looks great! I'm so pleased to see games like this bringing some much needed colour and cheerfulness to the world. It'll be fun playing through this series again
@BAMozzy I think it's obvious it's no ratchet and clank in terms of the remake. Still, I think this is great.
I've always enjoyed these levels. The graphics look pretty good here, and the animations for Crash look great. What I'm really loving though is that music! So good!
@BAMozzy I think they're going for a different thing to Ratchet & Clank. Ratchet was more of a reimagining of the original, whereas this is an identical remake using all-new assets.
You're not wrong, though.
This doesn't look that great to me. I don't plan on picking this up. I think there are better options as far as platformers go on the market right now.
Hidden gem you uncultured swine @get2sammyb
@ztpayne7 @get2sammyb I didn't mean it negatively at all but merely saying that it doesn't look better than I would expect had it been made for PS3 and I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to Switch.
When you look at the main pic, the ground looks quite basic, the walls and vegetation too. The 'effects' such as lighting etc are not exactly the same standards we see in other remasters on this generation - you think of the god rays for example in Skyrim.
The reason I mentioned R&C was because of the more 'cartoon' nature of that game compared to something like Horizon or Uncharted which aims more towards the realistic side. I know it was more a 'reimagining' but considering Crash is being rebuilt from the ground up using the originals as a template, I really thought they could do more. Make Crashes fur look less blurry and more like 'fur' (look at Horizon's Hair/beards for example), make his trousers look more like 'denim' (or whatever fabric they are meant to be), add more textures to the walls, rocks etc so they don't look quite so 'flat'. Essentially rebuild it as if it was made for this generation. They could have approached it in a similar way to MWr which looks incredible yet still plays identically to the original. You can't say that they approached that as re-imagining or just ported it up and bumped the resolution.
I know its a great improvement over the original but it really could have been 'better' than its currently looking. Maybe that's part of the reason its coming out relatively soon - that they kept the artstyle more 'simple' by modern standards to be able to get it out so quickly.
Like I said, I know that 'fans' will still buy this for the nostalgia etc but I could easily see this releasing on last gen with just a drop in resolution to 720p, releasing on Switch at the same resolution/frame rate - at least in docked as obviously the handheld only has a 720p screen.
I know its a step up but I really can't say its looking 'Ace'. Its hardly 'Pixar' quality like R&C...
@BLP_Software
@BAMozzy To clarify, was referring to the whole package (gameplay/graphics/music) with the headline.
@BAMozzy The chances are that Vicarious Visions had a small window of opportunity to make the games coming off the back of Skylanders and working on (the probable PC version of) Destiny 2. If they were giving the time to make the games to the highest possible standard it would have meant a likely two year timeline at least which they probably didn't have.
It looks good
It's a day one buy for me, the $40 price is great.
Every piece of footage we get for this fills my heart with joy.
So Ive reviewed the footage considerably and....I'm still really not impressed.
First, when Crash jumps up steps he looks heavy but from what Ive heard from those who have played it, he still feels like he did in Crash 1: i.e. heavy. Not wont mix as well with Crash 2's design.
2nd: Some of the animations (Getting crystals, breaking a Nitro Box, entry and exit to a level) look...less impressive? There's no oomph. No positive feel it just....feels flat.
3rd: I will say this time and time again but COLOUR. Those crates are really really blending in with the stone in this level, and even some things such as mines and some enemies don't quite pop in a way that makes them...I wont say obvious but more visible.
There were some objects there that due to either the flat plastic colours or the rather dull Unity-basic esque lighting....I couldn't see. This is a very personal complaint being colour blind but there were actual objects that were invisible because everything is so muted and plastic.
And honest to God, the only thing about this remake beyond the music from what we have heard, that excites me in any way, is the alleged improvements to the game design regarding saving, checkpoints and getting Gems in Crash 1.
But if they carry over his stiffer control from Crash 1 to 2 and 3...then you've already kind of killed the fluid motion and control those had.
Sorry guys @get2sammyb @ShogunRok but I just...I cant see it (Sometimes literally!). I'm sure it will be good but now I've seen Crash 2 in motion I see Crash 1 physics and the rather dull presentation and I'm not optimistic. And given I was saying this back when all we saw was Crash 1 I was hopeful the presentation was early and we didn't know how 2 and 3 would play with control but now...closer to release? I might be sticking to the originals. Crash 1 will be improved in some respects, but they are going to carry over one of the things 2 and 3 left behind.
I hope, in retrospect, this game comes with a colour blind mode. I really, really honest to high heaven do, because this is the 2nd game in just under a year I have been in a situation where I simply cant see things. First was DOOM on PS4, and thankfully that had colour blind modes so I could see level design and enemies coming.
