While the IMDB "leak" regarding Spider-Man PS4 is almost certainly inaccurate β and Insomniac Games has even stressed as much β it has raised an interesting question: what kind of story do you want out of this PlayStation 4 exclusive adaptation? While the game was announced over six months ago, there's been very little chatter about what Peter Parker's super-powered alter-ego may find himself up against, so this is a good jumping off point to at least speculate.
For those who haven't seen the rumours yet, it proposes the idea of a family man Spidey, who must fight to save his family from the Green Goblin. We certainly like the idea of a more personal tale, and focusing on a more mature Web Slinger means that the tale would hopefully eschew the origin story stuff that's been recycled across all forms of media a million times before. It sounds like a strong concept for a game.
But even if that's not the backbone of the plot, are there any particular villains that you'd like to appear in this outing? Do you think that it should be based upon a specific comic book or movie plot, and why? Would you like to see Insomniac Games tackle the origins of the character, and do you want Peter Parker to put in an appearance or do you want this to be all about the superhero in his suit? Swing into the comments section below, and let's share some fan fiction.

Not one based on the s*** Renew your Vows Comic Series where they turned Peter into a murderer!
That's for damned sure!
Language - get2sammyb
@Gold_Ranger Mind the language! Any villains or anything you'd specifically like to see in the game?
Give me awkward college Peter! As for villains, can't have GG without the Sinister Six, right? Save Venom and Carnage for any sequel.
TBH the biggest thing with Spidey games for me is always the nostalgia costumes.
The story on spiderman ps1 is pretty good, the one with the venom that in the end co-operate with spidey. Or the one with bruce campbell as narrator that eat sandwich in the training mode
No origin (they must have learnt we're bored of that by now?!) and a main villain other than the Green Goblin. They should avoid making Parker playable, too. People want to be Spider-Man, not PP (Take Assassin's Creed - I've yet to meet anyone who was happy when they hit sections switching them back to the modern era). What would be the fun in being Parker? Isn't the point of him that he's just like us, just with super powers? I don't want be me. That's why I play games!
I think Venom or Carnage would make good overall villains however, I still think the Spiderman 2 game on PS2 was tops and that had lots of plots and villains as well as the main Doc Ock. This is one game that I would really ilke a fully realised open world.
I agree with having him fight against the Sinister Six. Doc Octopus is a must. And get Mark Hamill in for Hobgoblin if at all possible. Hobgoblin is awesome.
Save Venom & Co for a sequel.
Rule 1: no origin stories.
I don't really care about the story. I just want it to have robust gameplay, like Rocksteady's Arkham games.
I can't imagine there are enough people who know about more modern Spiderman storylines to be interested in him having a wife and kid, or any of that crazy "clone" stuff, so that's out. Though now that I think about it that costume is very Scarlet Spider inspired, ugh. Oh well.
I know this isn't technically a game of the new Homecoming movie, but still, Spiderman is now part of the MCU, so I'm guessing this game will be a part of that as well. Tony Stark - Iron Man will make an appearance, probably not playable, this isn't an Avengers game, but just enough to set the game in that universe. The real question is will Wolverine make an appearance. Spidey and Wolverine kind of go hand-in-hand, but w/ mutants and Avengers being so distinct these days I doubt they can bring him in.
I do wonder about Agents of Shield being a potential tie-in. InHumans begins it's own series this year, so they could make an appearance. And Ghost Rider could be a thing. And since Spidey is in NY I'm expecting a short cameo from Dr. Strange.
One thing about Spidey, since he's not part of a team, it always allows him to run into others, Avengers, mutants, even the FF, though as much as that movie bombed and has disappeared I don't expect them to be part of the game, maybe as DLC later for 1 mission.
Then there is all the Netflix stuff - Cage, DD, Jessica Jones. Web of Shadows had some Luke Cage scenes, so maybe this will be "Spiderman: Netflix"?
We haven't seen anything about this game, so maybe it's all of the above - Avengers, Netflix, mutants, Spidey clones - which is why they're being so secretive?
As for the game play, I hope it's very much inFamous Just keep Spidey moving and fighting, no Peter Parker except in cut scenes, like him climbing into his window and going to bed, or sitting at his desk researching stuff on the internet or planning his next move. Basically his room is the hub of the game world. Peter only exists in that room, he always leaves the room via the window as Spiderman. OK, he can change into his civies for cut scenes in Tony Starks office as well so we can see his facial expressions. That can be a 2nd hub, like in Friend or Foe, maybe Spidey can train there.
There's so much potential in Spidey - friends, foes, NYC - such potential for a great action game. Hope they don't screw it up.
I would like to see a gritty Spiderman game where he takes on organized crime so maybe Kingpin or The Enforcers. Maybe some of the more obscure villains like The Tinkerer or Hammerhead.
If it goes with "big" villains then I want the Sinister Six for sure.
I think Venom and Carnage are both overused so I would be okay with them both not being in the game.
Hard for me to really say since I'm not overtly familiar with the comics. I've been reading some of them (unfortunately including One More Day), but not all his history yet.
While I wouldn't mind a Sinister Six headlined game, I'd prefer if this game avoided what the Arkham series did and potentially rely too much on Green Goblin or Venom. If possible, save them for a sequel. There's been speculation that Mr. Negative is a baddie here, and I wouldn't mind that.
While this has also been said around the net, I will stress that I'd like to see an experienced Spidey this go around, and not the teenager starting out. He was only in high school for the first 28 issues (out of over 700), so give older Pete some spotlight. Heck, I wouldn't mind if he was married to be honest, what I would like from this title is something different from what we would usually get from Spidey stories.
I'd really like to see it focused on the Negative Man / Anti-Venom arc in the comics. But deep down I know this isn't a story for a first game. Mister Negative is definitely in, based on the trailer, but I'd like to see Doctor Octopus as the main villain - the Superior Spider-Man completely changed the way I see this character.
Venom and Carnage definitely for sequels.
As 'in the middle of the game' foes, any of the classics are fair game: Electro, Shocker, Kraven, the Lizard, Mysterio ... all of them solid picks.
@get2sammyb
Sorry about that.
@get2sammyb
I'd like to see a really well done Chameleon and Mysterio.
Where both those characters eff with your head!
I'd like to see the crazed 90's jackal!
Kraven has been done too much.
Basically, I'd love a game that draws heavily from the Steve Ditko years!
I'd do the Arkham Asylum thing of just sticking to a handful of villains. My main one would be either Mysterio or Kraven with Rhino, Scorpion or Shocker as the middling bosses.
By all accounts this game won't be attached to the MCU so they have freedom to tell the story they want (hence the suit) but if Insomniac nail web swinging and combat then people will forgive poor story or bland missions because they did with Spiderman 2.
Sinister six!
Something between. Ratchet n Clank and Infamous is fine by me. The problem I'll have is that I have infamous second son and love it. Not sure I can get excited about swinging around a grey concrete jungle, if it has a night cycle and some juicy lighting that's a bonus, so would be non high rise city areas, throw in a forest or jungle yeah?
a good one
@PaperyWhiteBoy I liked the out of the Animus sections on the Asassin's Creed games.
It would be cool to have it be a mystery. Something where stealth was involved and because you are able to climb walls and peer in windows, you can investigate it in a way that no cops could. Of course, at the end, it would be revealed that the perp would be one of Spidey's many goofy villains whom I can never take seriously.
@Ralizah THIS
While I'd normally disagree with the approach, I'm a little less worried about the story and just want to make sure there's a solid foundation gameplay-wise.
Story-wise I think they should keep it to a fairly classic template. Make family, work and superhero lives intersect and interact, putting pressure on him where necessary. That's classic Spidey, whether he's an adult or younger man. Put in a compelling 'main' villain that poses a threat to all three in different ways - his family pressuring him, the Bugle making him out to be a villain, etc.
Venom would usually have been a good choice but he's been done so many times (and often not well at all), so I'd be inclined for a Sinister Six style plot that culminates with a battle against one of the bigger powers, like the Kingpin or Oscorp. That way you basically copy the Arkham Asylum template where gameplay leads but you get to see a fantastic cast of villains that play out in the right way.
