Hideo Kojima admitted following his break-up with Konami that he considered quitting games for good, but he was convinced to start again. Now it seems like the auteur is very much over the past, and is looking to the future. Today an embargo has lifted showing off the inside of his new studio, and it looks frankly astonishing.
And in an interview with IGN, the luminary has suggested that he won't be leaving game development any time soon: "I'm embarking on a new challenge with a fresh slate, but I intend to keep pushing the creative envelope until the day I die. I believe my experiences over the past 53 years won't lead me astray."
Kojima also had some positive things to say about his former employer: "Everything I experienced over 53 years – movies I've seen, books I've read, music I've listened to, games I've played, people I've met, and the 30 years spent in this industry – have formed who I am. Not one of these things has been without purpose, including my experience creating games at Konami."
The veteran believes that 2017 will be a big year for the new Kojima Productions, as it begins work in earnest on Death Stranding. The game has already played host to two incredible trailers, both of which connect if you play them side by side. It's stuff like this that makes the Metal Gear man one of the most imaginative names in games, and we can't wait to see what he's got cooking next.

I know we'll probably never find out, but I desperately hope that somebody gets the inside scoop on exactly what went down with Kojima and Konami. That's going to be a hell of a story when/if it comes out.
@johncalmc I'm very curious as well. I've wanted to know for a long long time. Whatever happened, Konami clearly made him butcher and half ass MGS5: PP's story to get it out the door faster, plus canceling Silent Hills in the process. Ridiculous moves on Konami's part and I JUST WANNA KNOW WHY?!?!?!
Nice, I'm big fan of his game (mgs and zoe), I hope he keeps making games. Zoe like games with vr support sound great.
@johncalmc Yeah, I really want to know the story about his fallout with konami, and the last guardian development story too.
Kojima deserves the rights and licenses for dormant Konami intellectual properties like Suikoden, Policenauts and Zone of the Enders!
I have never understood the hype for Kojima, I mean don't get me wrong he's a good developer (his games are just not for me) but people act like he's some sort of messiah when it comes to gaming. Way too overrated if you ask me.
@Tasuki I respect him for his work and for how much he puts into his projects, but "Kojima is God" is taken far too literally at times. He's a talented guy, but not perfect, especially with Metal Gear.
This game is too overhyped and we are years away from seeing it. Get on with it THEN talk to the press.
@Tasuki
I like some of his games, but he seems like a guy who has done a basic philosophy and modern history course and is trying to work through some stuff. The hype and fawning that surrounds the guy is weird and cringy, if he was in the film industry he would be considered a joke figure.
@AlphaJaguar I love Kojima too but I'm not sure why he deserves the rights to Suikoden, a game series created by another ex-Konami employee, a game series he's never had anything to do with at all. The other two games were both created in part by him (Kojima wasn't the director of either ZoE or ZoE2 but did produce them), but Yoshitaka Muruyama is the creator of Suikoden and it's after he left Konami that the series really went downhill and died.
@Matroska Kojima could still get the rights to Kojima Studios and have Yoshitaka Muruyama direct the hypothetically new games. Though if Suikoden is still being used by Konami then that'll be impossible. Zone of the Enders and Policenaughts definitely need to get back to Kojima though.
@AlphaJaguar Yeah, there's no denying the series would be in far better hands if that happened. I'd also like Kojima to make his own JRPG. That would be pretty damn amazing.
