Publisher Koei Tecmo has announced that Dead or Alive: Last Round's free-to-play package, named Core Fighters, has been downloaded over 8 million times worldwide. The game's available across multiple platforms including PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, but it still seems like a pretty healthy number to us.
Basically, Core Fighters provides you with a limited number of characters - and you have to splash some cash in order to unlock more. It exists alongside the full version of Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, which, last time we checked, is actually going pretty cheap these days. It's also a very solid 3D fighting game, as far as we're concerned.
Anyway, to celebrate hitting the 8 million mark, spirited kick boxer Mila will be free with Core Fighters from now until the 7th February. Needless to say, if you haven't already tried it, now might be a good time to give Team Ninja's brawler a shot.

I got a retail copy when the game first released and it's a really decent fighter, hopefully DoA 6 is in development.
Mila is my fav character... Wish they released a definitive version of Last Round with all DLC
All joking a side about the eye candy I really enjoyed DOA. I think it is one of the more pick up and play friendly fighters.
I had Core Fighters for a while on PS3 since I couldn't afford the full game. I only deleted it due to the chunk of space it took up. I feel like playing it again though.
Mila is easily one of my favorite characters. Her moveset is so good.
Great game. Have a retail copy of it.
Definitely love core fighters, it was a great first game for try out the PS4 when I got it.
Kinda surprised however about the 8 million download, seems a bit low given it's a fantastic free game aviable on the most sold console of this gen.
EDIT: The download is only for PLUS members, which I'm not. Next time don't raise my hopes by forgetting to mention such detail in the article please ;w;
Does this mean you can use her for free until that time (like free rotation in a MOBA), or if you download before that date, she's your to keep for free (like DLC going free for a few weeks)?
@BakaKnight Well it means about 1 in 6 PS4 owners downloaded it (EDIT: Okay, that's across multiple platforms - still it's not that bad, 1 in 6 people downloading a less popular series in a less popular genre would've been pretty amazing, come to think of it).
That's actually good considering most people aren't really interested in fighting games, it's spent most of that time hidden away in the clunky and labrynthine PS Store, and even within the somewhat niche fighting game genre, it's not as popular as SF, MK or Tekken. Also, the download isn't exactly small. It's not like downloading a 150mb free mobile game. Plus, that's separate from people who actually bought the full game outright without trying the free version first (which'd account for most series fans).
@Matroska Welp, I didn't want to say 8 millions is a poor result, but I definitely think it had the numbers to do more, especially being a multiplatform result (but I can totally understand Koei Tecmo celebrating, ack, I would celebrate too if I would produce something that surpassed an 8 million mark XD).
By the way, since Mila is a free PLUS DLC she follow the same rule applied to any Playstation PLUS contenent downloadable for free, meaning that you can use her in Core Fighter for as long as you keep being a PLUS user.
So if you are a stable PLUS user than I guess you can fit her in the category "if you download before that date, she's your to keep for free".
