It's the first flagship PlayStation VR game since launch, and it seems a lot of people have plumped up the courage to play Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in virtual reality. Resident Evil.net – which performs a whole array of stat tracking and stuff – has revealed that over 72,000 players have at the very least sampled the title in conjunction with the headset thus far.
That's 9.5 per cent of the gamers who have opted to share data with the website, though it's worth remembering that the global number of players includes those on the Xbox One and PC too. With that in mind, it's quite an impressive statistic – especially when you consider that Sony's virtual reality headset has been pretty impossible to buy since launch.
We tested out the virtual reality mode and found it fairly impressive, but we did experience some motion sickness which prevented us from spending more time with the game in PlayStation VR. The reception across the web for the virtual reality option has been overwhelmingly positive, however, with some pundits describing it as the only way to play.

I tried VR a few months ago, got some serious motion sickness... I lost all interest in it after that. But I'm glad there's one great game to play if you enjoy VR.
@RenanKJ Which game did you play?
Guess I'm not part of that number. I'm never connected due to terrible internet.
Having a blast with it. I'm looking forward to playing through the campaign again on scrub mode
After trying the demo standing up as opposed to sitting thanks to one of the push square members suggestions (cuz I never thought of it myself..)and experiencing zero motion sickness I am most definitely going to be playing the game in vr when I get round to it...only trouble is just the thought of it is scaring me already lol
@get2sammyb It was a demo in college. The research group on Computer Graphics developed a game about security procedures at risky working conditions.
@RenanKJ With respect, maybe not the best first VR experience.
@get2sammyb Agreed, haha. Still, motion sickness is a really bad first impression.
There's also a lot of PC gamers pretty upset over the exclusivity deal, and one whiny writer over at PC Gamer even wrote an article about it. I don't get why they're so upset. If they own the game now, they can play through and enjoy it. If they wait for rift or vive support, they'll likely get it on sale. Just can't please everyone!
The only VR games I play sitting down are on rail shooters (Until Dawn) or cockpit games (COD, Battlefront, Battlezone). I stand for everything else. Never had motion sickness.
I haven't got Resi 7 yet. Plan to at some point soon. I have PSVR so will definitely give it a go but a part of me is too scared to try!!!
I want it and will definitely play in VR. I hope this encourages other devs to support VR where possible.
that's...really not that many.
I played the first 90 or so minutes in VR... Then the cat brushed up against my leg. Scared the crap out of me. Finished the rest on the TV. When I play it again for the rest of the trophies, I'll give VR another go... Lock the cat out of the room this time.
Think I need to pick this one up. After the Kitchen demo though, I was a nervous wreck. Well, maybe not quite that bad, but it was certainly more intense than I was comfortable with!
So is it the whole game on vr? That's pretty good if it is. I don't think I could cope with it though XD I watched one of my favourite YouTubers play the first section up to Mia and I spent the rest of the night spooked lol. I'm a wuss to be honest when it comes to horror games. The most I've ever done is Amnesia XD
@Star-Lord
Hold off playing this game till May then, it will be worth it.
The game is insanely better with the headset
Ive was DYING to get re7 when it came out. Its going to be so hard not getting it until i can get the psvr also. Thats going to be a LOOONG time away too unfortunately. An extra $700 is not something that comes by me often. I feel better by telling myself that re7 is the only real full game available right now
As good of a combo as RE7 and VR is, VR and me never went well together. I hate the feeling of motion sickness and nausea so I'm too nervous about trying PSVR.
Hey, I just started doing a VResident Evil 7 playthrough on my YouTube! It's so strange and cool, but recording it through VR causes some weird edge-texture stuff that I'm not too sure about. It's pretty engrossing though.
I have experienced zero motion sickness with PS VR and I have played a lot of it. My cat has also scared me a few times though.
Incredibly immersive experience in VR. So many gaming highlights already but being chased around and hiding with the ability to look over and around objects definitely adds another dimension. So impressed with this game and I to yelped out like a small child when the cat brushed against my leg haha.
I had this motion sickness (where u feel ill and a bit warm) previously when playing Tomb Raider.. but by time and considering moving your head with every turn.. it became so smooth to me. I played RE7 in VR and completed it in 11 hours and had all the VR options on and maxed (normal turn max speed..etc)
I have to say.. it was a wonderful experience and looking forward to do again in different difficulties
No way could I play it in VR. I'm finding it hard enough normally and had to stop using my virtual surround Sony headphones because it was too unsettling.
