Want an early look at World of Final Fantasy? If so, you'd do well to hop onto the PlayStation Store right now and seek out the game's newly released demo. On PlayStation 4, the download weighs in at 1.3GB, while on Vita, it's just 565MB. By completing it, you'll unlock a special monster that can be yours to capture in the finished product.
The turn based role-playing game is out on the 25th October in North America, and the 28th October in Europe. Will you be picking it up? Will you be giving the demo a try? Shrink yourself down and jump into the comments section below.

Loved the demo on PS4, will try later the Vita version. I prefer the turn based battle and the stack/unstack formattions add a lot of strategy.
Any idea what the special monster is? When I click the link it asks me a password.
@Melucine My mistake, link should work now!
I'm interested, but less so once they announced the monster stacking element. I will definitely give it a try. I'll try the demo later this week.
Tidus does the Jecht Shot!
Balls. I don't think it's out in the US store yet
Impossible to find through the android app, unfortunately
Definitely downloading the demo later on. Dragon Quest Builder's demo had me more hyped for the game, so I'm hoping this demo does the same.
Just finished the demo, and it left me with really mixed impressions.
The combat is nice and the monster collecting thing could be addicting (when you scan a monster it actually tells you the criteria to make it catchable and at least in the demo it is something different and slightly creative every time) and all the creatures profiles are nicely written and charming. It is also very slow! I cranked the battle speed up to 5 but that ATB bar still takes its precious time. The game is also mind-numbingly easy, but I am almost sure there will be difficulty options to make things interesting for habitual JRPG players, am I correct? Also...random encounters, not really used to them anymore and they get annoying when you are trying to "explore" the map that's actually not very explorable at all, especially since you can't save whenever you want but need to make your way to the save point random encounter after random encounter. They are not remotely difficult, so a bit pointless.
The graphic presentation, even on PS4, screams portable game (that grass!) and you can't even rotate the camera...so I'll eventually get the Vita version. As expected from the screenshots, the "normal" version of the two heroes is an eyesore and the color palette is weirdly pink-orangish but but that is just my personal taste I guess...
Still it seems like something I could really enjoy for the mechanics of it, so...maybe i'll get this later!
The demo will be the determing factor on if I get this or not
@shogunrok US demo comes out tomorrow I've been told.
Awesome. Nearly missed this article though. Not good. Can you advise me personally next time something happens that I might be interested in?
Thanks.
@Feena Doesn't sound great, brave of them to release a demo to be fair. I often find demos leave a sour taste, sadly. In general they put me off more games than they turn me on to.
It's why I didn't get Dead Space at launch. I always try and remember that when I'm judging a game on its demo lol
@kyleforrester87 yeah for me too usually. But a couple of games really got me with their demo...anyway this has its up and downs (for me) maybe it could be your cup of tea in the end
@Feena ...so it's like an old-fashioned JRPG. That's what I got from your impressions, anyway. Save points. Random battles. Slower battle speed. All that jazz. I'll try the demo out on my Vita later.
@Ralizah The battle is old fashioned but the game is not very old fashioned in the difficulty or exploration departments ...Tell me your impressions later I am a lover of the ATB system but this particular one is a tad too slow...i could easily go with 2X the speed of the ATB in the demo.
@Feena tried holding r1 during battle? Speeds it up..
Finished the demo although need to try it again really, my bloody bad eye is making the menu text all run together and I can't see what I'm looking at lol. I suppose the general exploration is okay but it's all a bit too sterile. I hope the hook will come in the form of the monster collecting and the story and variety of locations.
Battles are a lot better holding R1, but after Bravely no ATBs are gunna feel fast enough.
@kyleforrester87 THANK YOU! I didn't notice this at all. And yes it makes it a lot better...I even activated the auto battle trying to find a way to speed thing up XD
@Feena Random battles huh? I already wasn't happy w/ people standing in line to fight, but I don't think I can play a game w/ random battles. I do miss mimics, but that's about all from those days. Last game I think I managed to enjoy w/ random battles was Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast. That game was great, but man those battles every 2 to 3 seconds got annoying.
I still may have to play this some day, but my desire to rush to get to it is waning.
@Feena I think their going for a much younger audience with this game rather then for a hardcore JRPG crowd.
@rjejr The Dreamcast had an oddly loud disc drive, and you could hear the disc wind up a second before a battle started so if you jumped into the menu it cancelled it, got myself out of a few dungeons doing that back in the day haha
@adf86 yeah, makes sense. Still it's very nostalgic in a lot of ways so I am sure there is a mature audience for this as well - hope they acknowledged it with a difficulty setting or some harder, non-story objectives.
@rjejr The rate of random encounters in Skies of Arcadia, especially during airship travels, is legendarily exhausting! And I totally remember the exploit mentioned by @kyleforrester87 and the fact that I dowloaded some Lollipop looking weapon from Sega's "dreamarena" hahahah
Got the Demo dowloaded on PS4 but not seeig the Vita demo on the NA Vita PS Store. Was counting on doing a comparison.
@Feena "especially during airship travels"
Yeah, those. I don't recall them ever being difficult, just a bunch of repetitive flying fish.
@kyleforrester87 Wish I had known that exploit, probably would have made the game about half as long. Hopefully someday we get a remaster and they spread those out a bit. Though I liked the way Ni No Kuni handled it w/ the big whale fish better. I just can't imagine dealing w/ random encounters, it would give me a heart attack.
Either of you play Xenogears? There was a 5 hour random battle hallway that was so long even the characters in the game commented on it. Don't think I could replay that unless they fleshed out disc two, reading War and Piece wasn't very enjoyable. And it was so epic on disc 1.
I played the demo. It was playable I guess, the voice acting really got on my nerves and I'm not really sure how I feel about the stacking mechanic.
It wasn't bad enough for me to consider cancelling my preorder or anything, but I doubt its going to leave much of an impact in me.
How do you capture certain monsters like the Moogle, Firebombs, Fenrir and those small purple bats? I've gotten their health low but couldn't imprism them.
@WanderingBullet if you use scan on them, it will tell you what to do! Anyway
Moogles = heal them (potion or spell)
Pyros= cast fire spells on them
Fenrir= can't remember but i thought it was just getting them low on health!
purple bats = air spell
@Feena Neato, will try them out.
I did scan them but I didn't know the requirements on how to imprism them.lol Looks like I'll have to start again afterwards though since I logged out after playing it without actually progressing to the next stage. As it turns out the game didn't save my progress.:/
Thanks.
@WanderingBullet yeah you need to reach the save point...I felt like it took 1 month to reach it XD If you scan them when they are stacked it won't tell you anything, you need to make them crumble or just scan them when they are on their own
I like the demo, if the story is good I think I'll buy it. I want to buy the special edition though, too bad it's exclusive on square enix shop
@rjejr I could be wrong, but I seem to recall hearing that the Gamecube remake of Skies of Arcadia toned down the encounter rate somewhat.
@Fath Thanks, did a quick google search and it seems like you were right. Maybe I should wish for a HD version on NX.
@Feena Caught all the monsters in the game. Wished there wasn't a loading screen after every fight though. Not to mention, I can see the random encounters being annoying if you're trying to catch a particular monster. Having said that, I think the monster catching part can be pretty addicting too.
@adf86 The developers did mentioned that this game is targeted towards the younger audience who haven't played any of the FF games yet. Plus the Liliken styled characters were a nod to the earlier games I think.
@WanderingBullet good job, mate! Yew I agree on everything... Random encounters started to bother me in FFX only when you needed to collect monsters for the zoolab and needed specific monsters!
@Feena Yeah, thanks for the tips. Didn't notice the game mentioning anything about the "special monster" after I had completed the Ifreeta fight though. So I'm assuming the full game detects it via my game save data?
So, apparently NA only got the PS4 demo for this game.
No wonder I couldn't find it on PSN...
