Despite being billed as one of the best shooter campaigns in years, Titanfall 2 has struggled to make an impact on the UK sales charts – even with the franchise making its PlayStation 4 debut. Early estimates show that the title struggled to sell half of what the original managed on the Xbox One alone, though the tracking period does account for less days.
Still, a big franchise like this won't be happy finishing fourth – especially when it's behind Battlefield 1, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and FIFA 17. Farming Simulator 17 ploughed its way into fifth position, as Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 debuted in seventh place. Elsewhere, newcomer World of Final Fantasy stacked its way up into eleventh position.
Good results for the niche releases, then, but we can't imagine EA will be satisfied with Titanfall 2 – especially seeing as the addition of the PS4 was supposed to grow the brand. Perhaps it shouldn't have sandwiched the shooter between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare; surely a March launch would have been a more appropriate fit?
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 29th October, 2016

- FIFA 17
- Titanfall 2
- Farming Simulator 17
- Mafia III
- Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2

wouldn't say Titanfall is a big franchise tbh
the fact it's been put out to die between 2 massively popular FPS games with huge following doesn't help either
I hope the lesson ea learned is "don't release shooter game between battlefield series and cod series" and not "gamer doesn't want single player story in shooter games"
I already did my part, buying the game (and battlefield 1 too) because I heard the single player portion is good.
Completely stupid time of year, Destiny>Battlefield>Titanfall>CoDx2. Do me a favour.
We saw this coming a mile away, game has been tracking poorly ever since it was announced.
Still interested in getting titanfall but to much out right now probably picking up early next year.
Wouldn't be surprised if this was EA trying to force a buy on Respawn to keep it. I mean, they picked the worst week imaginable to push it out.
Kind of like what Bethesda does.
Glad the trophies are mainly single-player focused then and the only multiplayer ones are things like "win a game", since this game will likely face the same fate that the original did and be a ghost town within months. Really unfortunate. Will still support the game for its supposedly great campaign by buying it at Christmas time.
I'll pick it up when it's cheap but not before.
Should've been delayed till spring 2017.
Will deffo pick this up when then game hits £30, which will probably be quite soon.
Its a shame! This game is a bl@$t!!! I cancelled cod and BF1 one and put them on the pro!!! This shooter is fantastic! The launch timming os definitely the only reason why the is having a difficult launch!!! THe shooting in this feels spectacular to any other FPS ive ever played!!! I mean come on even the hip fire is grand no quick scoping required its ao fluid and unique!!! IM with respawn all the way on this!!! Fantastic job fellows!!! LAst titan standing and capture the flag with a team of friends are the 💣! ! !
i ended up using credit i had in my Game wallet to buy it - it plays reasonably well, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of maps for multiplayer.. it seemed like there was only about 5 maps. after checking online, it seems there's 3 that have never come up in the rotation for me. from the 3 missions of the campaign i've played, it's fun enough, mainly because of the shooting mechanics, but i wouldn't call it 'one of the best shooter campaigns in years'. i think the max number of players i've seen online is around 30000, though when the matchmaking says the number found in your region, sometimes it's in the hundreds. kinda of wishing i'd got skyrim instead now, since from friday i'll have the modern warfare remastered if i need a multiplayer fix.
I think Titanfall 2 will have long legs. I wasn't interested in any of the holiday shooters, but with the good word of mouth surrounding it, I'll be picking it up down the line. I'd only play the campaign so I'll wait for a price drop or two.
I think the real take away should be Rise of Tomb Raider dropping out of the top 10.
I genuinely feel like this will be the end of the franchise. If the reboot disappointed Square, what will they think of this?
They really picked a terrible week to launch it. Plus the beta did nothing to convince me I needed it day 1. I'm happy with Destiny, BF1 and the 2 CoDs. Titanfall would have been too much. FFXV and Last Guardian will be refreshing after all these shooters...
Titanfall 2 is probably the best FPS I ever played. This year I've fallen in love with Overwatch, a shooter where "old" guys like myself without the twitch skills of the younger lads can still play a major role in every game. The only thing is that you kinda have to play it as an MMO, always picking a support role and never being in the front line kicking @ss.
Respawn however has managed to create a game where I can play alongside and against faster and more skilled players and still feel like a FPS God dominating the battlefield. The single player bit is excellent, but usually that's where it ends for people like myself, but in Titanfall 2 the game just begins after finishing the campaign. The movement in this game is so fluid that CoD actually feels like it's stuttering and playing the Infinite War Beta had me actually annoyed because its traversal was far less fluid than in TF2. Playing TF2 is like the feeling you've had after playing Modern Warfare for the first time; everything that came before it -and lots that came even years after it- felt slow, dull and made you wanna break your controller.
For the love of Barker try this game! It's not just CoD with mechs, CoD feels like a cheap Chinese Titanfall knock-off withóut the incredibly satisfying mechs.
its a shame because its a good game and we all know cod will be crap but sell well and battlefield 1 will have loads of probs in the next few weeks
I'm gunna get it when it's cheaper with BF1 FFXV and the Pro i'm reluctant to spend much more money on myself so close to Xmas. Bit of a shame as I fancied TF2 as well over CoD, I personaly felt that the CoD beta was awful especially after how much I enjoyed the BO3 beta (and game).
EA once again proving they're both evil AND dumb!
TF2 should've been delayed to March or April with VR support.
Should've been a September release, 3 or 4 weeks ahead of Battlefield 1. Early next year is jam-packed as well so it still would've struggled even with a delay.
Ill probably pick it up 2nd hand in 6 months or so. BF1 is fun but not amazing. without the vehicles it doesnt feel much different than any other shooter
@JoeBlogs not sure whether PS4 players not having an affinity to it is largely the reason for its average sales performance. while there may some case of that, it didn't sell that much more on the XB1 - maybe XB1 players feel less of an affinity now that it's not exclusive anymore, who knows. PS players have always had a very strong affinity for battlefield though, it's the leading platform by far for it, and call of duty is out this week. now matter how good it is, asking people to plonk down 100 quid for two games (or 150 if you wanted all three shooters) in a fortnight is a big ask.
personally, i feel there isn't a massive amount of content really in TF2. the campaign is pretty short, and there isn't a lot of mp maps either, plus i seem to get the same 3 or 4 over and over. i know more will be added free, but CoD4:MWR will have 16 maps.
@Flurpsel Yep i'm with you on that BF1 is fun and a step forward from Hardline which was poor but it's a step backward's from BF4 and Bad Company's, fun for a couple of month's but no more really. I doubt i'll be buying the season pass anyway.
Both TF2 and Skyrim released worldwide on October 28th and this chart is for the week ending October 29th.....that pegs it at around 48 hours of sales time. Its clear TF2 was never going to knock Skyrim down and you guys are absolutely gaga over FIFA
I think it'll be more about longer legs with this release. Personally, TF2 is great so far, the traversal is top of its class. Sits perfectly alongside Doom.
@Boerewors
Alright you sold me.
But given its poor performance and the onslaught of like 30+ games I'll have bought these last 3 months of the year, I'm probably gonna wait out a price drop. $40 with GCU is $31.99. That's my price and when it hits it, I'm all in.
Good grief.
We live in an age where even Farming Simulator tops the charts. Meanwhile all these other hidden gems scavenge to muster up enough sales to break even.
@JaxonH Farming Simulator's pretty good, though, to be fair!
@BertoFlyingFox The actual numbers are shockingly bad, though.
@get2sammyb I figured as much heheh
@JaxonH
Sadly enough for these guys I don't think it'll be too long before it'll be up for grabs for $35- $40.... You could argue that we as consumers are the real winners then, but I beg too differ if that's the case in the long run; EA is in the money making business and when TF2 underperforms, we might never see part 3.
@Boerewors
Just have to hope the game will have legs. I'm playing through the campaign right now and my thoughts are similar to yours. It's easily the best FPS this gen, would be a massive shame to never get a part 3.
