Sleeping Dogs deserved so much more. The Hong Kong-based, pork bun-wielding cult classic didn't exactly set the cash registers alight, but it was universally adored by those who played it – primarily because it was essentially Grand Theft Auto without crap controls. While many held out hope for a sequel, however, developer United Front Games – the team also behind PlayStation 3 exclusives Modnation Racers and LittleBigPlanet Karting – went on to work on a weird MMO spin-off. And now it's no more.
While there's been no public comment from the company yet, staffers have been taking to Twitter and forums to confirm that the Canadian studio has been closed. Moreover, the firm's most recent game, Smash+Grab, has been withdrawn from Steam. While it's possible that Square Enix could commission another team to make a Sleeping Dogs sequel, it doesn't look like it will be waking the franchise from its long slumber any time soon, given its evident reluctance to work with UFG on a follow-up.
