Sonic Mania looks like the best title starring the blue blur in years, and SEGA's commemorating that fact with an awesome Collector's Edition. Two problems: it doesn't include a boxed copy of the PlayStation 4 game on Blu-ray and it's not coming out in Europe. This is a publisher that will insist on taking one step forward, and two steps back.
What you do get is a download code for the game, a 12-inch Sonic statue standing on a Mega Drive (urgh, okay – Genesis) which plays the SEGA jingle, and a faux cartridge with a gold ring. It'll cost you $69.99 and is available to pre-order from Amazon right now, but the publisher's ruled out a release in the Old World. We blame Eggman.

I saw this on Twitter, got so excited and then no Europe. God bloody damn it XD You had my hopes high there Sammy!!!
YES!!! So happy it doesn't include a physical disk. I want the game digitally but didn't want to get a collectors edition if it meant I had to buy the game again.
Meh. No physical? No buy.
Meh I want this but I live in Europe. In SEGA they really have no idea what their fan-base wants and were it is located?
As a note I am not bothered by the download key. It may be a good idea for others to follow.
Does SEGA Europe hate retail editions or something?
Damn right it's the Genesis. Better name anyway.
I somehow missed this announcement, but I'm pretty stoked after looking at it. Was hoping for a Generations like game, but I'm cool with classic Sonic.
Download only normally puts me off, but I'll make an exception for this.
@sajoey oh yeah.sega genesis best name ever.mega drive sucks
So you get a statue, a none working cartridge and a download code.
Worthwhile if you remember Sonic 3 for £50 on the Megadrive (Genesis sucks - Phil Collins owns that name)
Eggman?
@themcnoisy
Genesis is a much better name,........it was, after all, the genesis of the 16 bit generation for the west (the Turbo was as well in August of 1989, but it was a failure in NA).
Mega Drive just sounds boring - dull, lifeless.
Sega lol they're doomed.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi
Yeah, but for about 15 years they kicked ass, that's more than most companies.
Man, no physical sucks. I was gonna buy this LE too.
Guess I'll just get the plain Jane digital version on sale.
I was hoping for a physical copy.
Personally, the statue is enough for me to buy this edition. Like others, I am also disappointed with the lack of a physical copy, but everything present makes up for it.
To each his own, I guess.
YES! My biggest complaint with Collector's Editions is I hate physical copies of games. I understand why that would be a negative for some (most?) but for me it's a huge positive.
Not so much on the whole "not hitting the UK" thing. That's just crap.
Would have been nice to have a physical copy.
@sub12 Mega Drive. All day, every day. You say it sounds dull, I say it sounds cooler than an episode of Power Rangers before school.
@kyleforrester87
The Genesis, it came out here a good year before the EU, and it sold more units as well, plus Sega of America more or less pulled the strings in Europe................so the Genesis it is!
@sub12 but it was also called Mega Drive in Japan, where it came out before the US. Plus Sega is a Japanese company, shows the Mega Drive was the real name of the console. But hey it's all down to what you grew-up with
@sub12 Mega Drive in Japan, its home turf, so... Mega Drive it is
Obviously there was some copy right issue in America.
Plus it sounds awesome next to the name Master System (another brilliant console name!).
@kyleforrester87
The Japanese pretty much disowned the Mega Drive, like an unwanted child. It was Sega of America, who called it the Genesis, offered it a warm meal, a new home, patted it on the back, and told it to "go off and make something of yourself in Europe."
The Master System is a crap name btw.
@sub12 Well if you think Master System is a crap name there is no helping you!!! lol
Dammit Sega, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw this, but no UK release!?!? Really, really, reaaaaaally hope that changes...
@kyleforrester87
Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast = all good names
@sub12 The Dreamcast is an excellent name, I'll give you that
Im a bit shocked that it doesn't have a disc, but then again, it has a gold ring.
Wow. You had one job, Sega. One job.
Wish this was coming to a Nintendo console. Fingers crossed for an NX release! I don't wanna support it on PS4, but I may have to have that statue.
