One of the reasons Sony's so keen to shut down leaked images of the PlayStation 4 Slim is because, typically, the amateur snaps aren't especially flattering. Indeed, the platform holder's unannounced console has been deemed ugly from every corner of the web based on the handful of photos released, but it looks much nicer in the flesh.
A video has emerged of an unboxing of the console via ZRZ, but do be aware that the manufacturer has been pulling these, so it won't be around forever. If it gets removed again, then you're just going to have to take our word for it and wait for the system to be officially announced. It's grown on us a little bit, though, we must say – looks pretty nice.

Ok. Watched the whole video this time round. Now I believe what I saw. As far as I'm concerned, the PS4 Slim is real. It's the real thing!
Does the guy not have a table? He can afford the slim but not a table to unbox it on. Poor guy
Everybody complained when the PS3 Slim and Super Slim were revealed that they looked ugly (rough looking industrial plastic on the former and cheapo corrugated toploader CD player look on the latter).
But everybody promptly forgot that when they realised they gave you the same Playstation goodness in a smaller, cheaper and quieter box.
@SuperCat Did people complain about the PS3 Slim? That's by far the best model IMO.
@get2sammyb @SuperCat I remember people being a bit divided on the matte finish of the Slim after the original PS3 had that shine.
So no night light I mean light bar
Looks really smart to be honest. Love my original PS4 though, so unless something goes horribly wrong, I won't be buying one of these. Nice form factor though, for sure.
Also quite like the light on the touch pad. Loads of games have made use of the light bar, but unless you hold the controller up to have a look, you would hardly notice. Good stuff
@ShogunRok @get2sammyb As an owner - and still using on a regular basis - of both an original 80GB phat and a 12GB super slim I can whole heartedly say even the original phat is 100x better than that top loading ugly toy box. And the buttons on it are super cheesy too. There's just no comparison between a front loading slot and a top loading sliding really cheap piece of plastic that feels like it's going to break every time I put a disc in or out.
And this one is just always going to be ugly b/c sharp corners are cooler than rounded. And no split top, so no engraved panels. And light. And it's all 1 black color. It looks like a turd. Or at best a sandwich maker. I wonder if it can make a Kratos grilled cheese? .
Give me shiny give me smooth
They better announce an Elite Controle (DS Plus?) in September or I'll be forced to play BF1 and TF2 on the One. Hasn't Sony been paying attention when the Elite controller was sold out for months on end? There is a huge demand for these high quality peripherals and it's time Sony put their money where their mouth is and show they're truly "for the players".
And now its gone.....
The original fat PS3 was by far the best looking of all the PS3 models
Actually prefer this design looking closer at it. Wouldn't buy it though. Only reason Neo tempts me is that it is hopefully a little quieter...
Will there still be the option to replace the HDD?
@Boerewors yep, the DS4 is made of biscuits. I'm not going to wait 3 months for an overpriced scuf.
It looks real to me with the metal sockets and it looks really nice. I love the Mac inspired minimalist rounded corner design. No wasted space, just compact and neat. Yes it does look dark but I think it's the cheap camera struggling to get any detail out of the black matt finish. In real life you will see the matt texture clearly.
It does lack colour through, but then again, this is the budget model going forward. PS4 Neo will be the elite model, with more colourful trimmings to stamp it as the prestige model. I expect PS4 Neo to be larger as well.
I still think it looks ugly and cheap from whatever angle you look at it! the rounded corners, the cheap looking buttons etc. I am not a fan of the sloping design of the original PS4 (although has more thought gone into it than the XB1) but nothing stands out about the PS4 slim from any angle. Considering most will never look at the back or bottom as the front and top are most likely to be on show, this is the most important aspect. I really like the PS4's power and eject 'buttons' and the light bar across the top - they are not too bright. I guess removing these cuts down costs but also cuts down that element of 'class' it had too.
I just hope that the Neo is where Sony spent its money on the design elements - something that looks and oozes class...
tbh might get if it runs cooler and quiter.
@DiddyWahDiddy Yes, the hdd bay is on the right side.
I don't think any amount of photoshopped bullshots will make that thing look appealing. It looks like someone did a spray paint job on their 4k media player.
After watching the video I have to agree it looks ALOT better than the phots that have been going round. Its actually not bad.
I wish they would bring out something usefull for a change like a wired controler or an Elite. That thing is ugly btw look's like a cheap old DVD player I had, they moved the light from the console and made the one on the controler bigger O.o yeah people have been screaming for that for age's. What imbecile make's these decision's.
@get2sammyb agreed ps3 slim is the best model
Annnnnnd it's gone.
It looks pretty shoddy compared to the original ps4. Looks pretty cheap. To be honest the ps3 slim looked pretty ugly too. And that loading tray was awful.I guess it's about saving money and with the power savings it makes sense. I don't know why they don't just keep to the same style but just slightly miniaturised.
@Neolit
Hopefully they put a USB on the rear of the PS4K, never understood why they put them both on the front?!?!
I read on one site that the 'optical out' on the back was removed.
Not a fan of this Slim, maybe the Neo will keep the classic PS4 form-factor?
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Dat Dark Souls 2 reference doe.
I don't like it.
But that's ok, cause I don't need it. The OG model is fine.
I just need a model that will let me expand beyond 2 TB. I don't care if it's an external drive or the ability to use 3.5" internal, but one way or another they've got to get this figured out fast or my game purchases are switching over to Xbox where I still have space left.
@SecondServing praise the sun
