We posted a spot of speculation pondering when the PlayStation 4K – or Neo, as it's codenamed – will be revealed over the weekend, but we didn't really come to any firm conclusions. Now a French website has thrown its blue beret into the rumour mill, indicating that "sources" have told it that the revised hardware will be officially revealed on 7th September in New York.
While it's far from an official confirmation, the location makes sense – the original PS4 was announced in NYC, too – and the timing also seems reasonable if the console's due out before the end of the year. It's also obviously going to be announced on that date, seeing as that's the week that this author has already booked off on holiday. FML.

It'll be fascinating to see if anything's changed from the leaks following Xbox's E3 showing.
Eh we will see but game blog.fr isn't the most reliable place.
What if it was called the PS4 S, and that's why it's all gone quiet lol, that'd be a marketing nightmare.
@SegaBlueSky I hope so, it will be hilarious if ps4k have better teraflops than scorpio.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Mmmm, croissants.
In case anybody is wondering - Why NYC? - that's where the Playstation Theater is.

That's the Wednesday after Labor Day when everybody is back to school and work, so that's a good time.
Seems like a good time and place to show off a FFXV Neo bundle.
I'm still hoping they call it PS4K ULTRA to match their 4k streaming service logo.

@wiiware I very much doubt that Sony will change the specs much (if at all) from those that leaked. It makes NO sense for Sony to do so - especially as dev-kits have been in the hands of developers for a while. By boosting the specs to meet 'Scorpio' - especially at the this time, would probably price the Neo above what they are looking at. It would also be a much bigger step between the PS4 and Neo - Something that would be 'wasted' when games/features etc can't run on PS4 but can easily run on Neo. The other aspect is that when Sony do opt to bring out 'PS5', the step up won't seem that significant. Scorpio is also expected to be using GPU/CPU's that aren't actually out yet. Sony of course could delay but that also delays Sony's opportunity to bring 4k to its audience in any capacity. Sony are on a 'different' path to MS. I believe that Sony will regain its spot as the most powerful console with its next generation - something that isn't going to be held back/restricted by inferior hardware - like the Neo is.
As for the date (7th Sept) that seems quite late on some ways but Sony have said that they want to make an announcement and release very soon after - almost immediately. I still think we will see a release late Sept - maybe early October. It seems odd to me that Sony are stipulating a 'day1' patch (if games don't ship with a Neo mode) for ALL games releasing in September before ALL games including that built in and releasing from October onwards. If they were not releasing until late October onwards, why stipulate a 'Day1' patch? Why not say that all games have to receive a patch by 30th September or even 31st October (if its due in November). Sony will want to get in on the 4k - something the XB1s is currently offering (albeit just media and upscaling the games to 4k). I know a lot of people that are buying a XB1s just for the 4k HDR Bluray player. Sony's though is likely to suit home cinema enthusiasts as it will probably handle better than Dolby 5.1 sound.
Either way, I am certainly likely to upgrade my PS4 to the Neo - just hope its sooner rather than later...
It'll be called either PS4K or PS4+ imo.
I will be ready to splash money down on it too as soon as it's announced. Hopefully it will come with a 2TB inside, with external HDD support in case you manage to fill that up.
@BAMozzy If it will work on 1080P high settings with 60 FPS locked i will be happy.
@Flaming_Kaiser Me too!!! Much prefer a locked 60fps with the visual settings turned up as high as possible to achieve at least 1080p - then upscaled to 4k as opposed to pushing for 4k and scaling back the frame-rate and visuals to try and achieve these...
Hopefully developers will have the freedom to do this rather than try and get 1800p
@rjejr New York city is the best I live in New York
New York city oh yeah the best city.God of war playstation best franchise.follow by syphon filter word up
Oooh, I love a juicy rumour!
I would bet money on it releasing in october to help boost PSVR sales.
@playstation1995 I almost believed New York was the best city until I read the rest of your comment.
Hopefully we hear something soon, hdr is all the rage apparently, can ps4k ultra plus neo handle that?
It'll be called the PlayStation 4 U, and come with a low-quality touchscreen in the middle of the DualShock 4 U, replacing the DS4 touchpad. Sony will change the PS4 slogan to "4 U, the players."
Suddenly Xbone will start to sell a lot better.
