Is the saga finally over? One of the biggest stories of the last few weeks, Fallout 4: Far Harbor launched in extremely poor condition on PlayStation 4, with many players experiencing crippling frame rate issues when exploring the expansion's new island setting.
In order to fix the problem, Bethesda has saw fit to re-release the content on the PlayStation Store. It's been available to re-download since last night in North America, and now the developer says that it's ready to go in Europe, too.
Here's some quick instructions on how to re-download Far Harbor on PS4:
- Close Fallout 4 if you happen to be playing it
- Go to the library icon on your PS4's main menu and press X on Fallout 4
- Scroll down to the 'Related Items' tab and press X
- Scroll down to 'My Add-Ons' and press X
- Highlight Far Harbor's download icon (the little arrow pointing down) and press X
- You should now have the new version of Far Harbor downloading - once it's installed successfully, the expansion's frame rate issues should be fixed
It's worth noting, however, that Bethesda recommends deleting Fallout 4 in its entirety (just the game and add-on data - not your save files) if re-downloading Far Harbor doesn't fix things.
We'll be diving back into Far Harbor shortly to bring you revised impressions of the expansion. Until then, let us know if you've had more luck with this new version in the comments section below.

I embarrassingly still need to finish the main story, I got a bit stuck deciding which faction to go for and then haven't really played it since, but I might go back on and finish it with the railroad. I doubt I'll buy this though, after the mess Bethesda has made of it I'm completely put off buying it
Well maybe this is how Bethesda should of fixed Skyrim and New Vegas on the PS3 as no patching fixed the performance drop once the save files increased past certain sizes. However with the PS3 divided ram maybe there was really no fix for larger file sizes in those games.
My research found that Fallout 3 Broken Steel dlc had big problems when released on the pc and xbox 7 years ago. The pc had a fixed version to download and the xbox version was temporarily pulled from market, and i assume that was also for a fixed version.
Patches auto download but this re-download procedure is not automatic. Also there is no notification of this fix when i start up the game even though there i am always connected to psn and the internet. I had to search various sites daily for patch release news with it going from a patch submitted, to an urging to re-download, and now i guess a genuine official this is how to fix it statement of delete everything and re-download everything. Geeez!
Had a quick go this morning and all they've done is remove almost all of the fog, it does run at an almost constant 30 fps but it's a shame Bethesda didn't create a new game engine for this game. I've read about pc users having large frame rate drops because of the fog and when you look at the level of detail on show this game should be running so much better.
At least it's perfectly playable now, the only thing is I don't know what all the townsfolk are complaining about now that all the fog has already gone 😃
LOL they "fixed" it!
haha if it's true that they just removed the fog..well, amazing!
you know I was watching the kinda funny games playstation podcast and I agree with them way to we let them get away with this broken ass game and dlc
look at witcher its 10 times the size and works so much better why do people give them a free pass they really need to fix there engine
you wait the next elder scrolls is coming next it will be broken as well
I'm playing fallout 4 again now and I'm enjoying it a lot more now that the hype and my expectations have died down but I'm not sure I can be bothered with installing it again. It took forever.
