Remember that post we made about Uncharted 4: A Thief's End advertising hoardings surrounding the Champions League semi-finals this week? Sony has now confirmed that its plotting its largest ever marketing campaign for Naughty Dog's latest – well, in the UK at least. The latest issue of MCV outlines exactly what it's got in store: television advertising, billboards, magazine coverage, cinema placements, and ridiculous point of sale stands.
In fact, if you go into a local retailer soon, you may find a life-size Drake hanging from the roof. It's clear that the Japanese giant is betting big on this game, and given the anticipation surrounding it, we reckon that its efforts will pay off. May isn't always the best time to launch a big budget blockbuster like this, but does anyone want to bet against it setting the sales charts alight? We suspect that it's going to do very, very well for itself.

Let's just hope it won't cause overhype.
Put it this way, I hadn't played any Uncharted games up until a couple of weeks ago when I bought the remastered collection. I bought it based purely on the hype surrounding Uncharted 4. I've just started the 3rd installment and already can't wait for the 4th. So i'd say sony did a good job with it's early campaign.
You'd think such a big game of a well established series wouldn't need such a marketing campaign.
Then again, I do consider it the video gaming equivalent of a Hollywood Summer Blockbuster so a big marketing budget is a staple part of it.
Well, isn't that a shock.
It honestly don't need all that Marketing as it'll sell by the bucket load as it is.
It's not CRAZY like the Final Fantasy XV marketing campaign but hey this brand doesn't need to be "saved". Or the entire Japanese home console market.
What's next? We all get an Uncharted themed postcard personally signed by Shuhei reminding us that Uncharted 4 comes out next month?
Didn't GTAV and IV for that matter launch in April/May with not even half the ads and sell really well. Sony going a little OTT I have seen a bus without an uncharted advert since Monday.
@Draythedestroyer Do you have any sources for the advertising budget of GRA IV/V? Because I felt that it was everywhere. Same with COD, even hiring very well known actors for live action trailers, despite selling an insane number of copies every year.
@FX102A
MS does the same for Halo, Activision for Call of Duty and Rockstar for GTA. Well known or not, advertising never hurts.
Hopefully all the promotion will cause all the retailers to offer great deals on PS4s since May isn't typically a great month for harware sales. Free copy of U4 would be nice.
I was holding out for FFXV but Nintendo hanging that huge "Closed for renovations - will reopen in 2017" sign yesterday on their HQ has me chomping at the bit for a PS4.
Do they really need a marketing campaign with all the news coverage they get on delays and early releases?
Just got my copy on pre-order for £36.78 so happy about that. Was going to wait but want to try out the multi-player which should be decent. Oh and the story of course.
An advert for an advert huh?
@KingofSaiyanZ What I really want is a $300 PS4 w/ a game I want. If I wanted only a $300 PS4 I could have gotten 1 Black Friday, and for $400 - the U4 bundle price - I could have purchased one 2 years ago.
I like the Uncharted series, U2 is one of my favorite games, but I just don't get have a pic on a console that will be in a cabinet I won't be able to see. I'd rather they just give me a 8x10 to hang on the wall.
