We tend to ban the word 'E3' here at Push Square Towers until at least May, but that's not possible if you work at PlayStation HQ. In an interview with SCEA president Shawn Layden on the latest PlayStation Blogcast, the animated suit alluded that the company's been planning for the Los Angeles-based event for three months already – and it's still got a further three months to finalise things.
"It eats up about half a year to get ready for that show," he said, refraining from sharing any specific details. Last year, the PlayStation maker hosted arguably the greatest E3 press conference of all time, so it'll be fascinating to see if it can come close to matching that in June. A Crash Bandicoot reveal would bring the roof down – but Layden did hint that he's banned from mentioning those two words.
Banned until he utters them up on stage this summer, eh? Eh?

you know if Sony did turn around and say "We got Crash Back", then the internet would explode
@FullbringIchigo Basically. I actually think there's a chance of a new Crash game, I really do. Even if they don't buy the rights, they could hash out some kind of licensing deal with Activision.
It could happen.
I'm of the opinion Crash could happen. There has been too much hinting at it. Where there's smoke there's fire after all.
I'm just hoping that maybe... maybe. With the recent re-release of Dark Cloud 1 and 2 on the PS4. Maybe Sony is preparing to announce some dark and cloudy at E3 this year.
Either way. I'd be down for a new Crash game. Never really played the others much though.
@get2sammyb I'm with you - I'm pretty sure it will.
Also, Sony have been doing deals with Activision when it comes to CODBLOPS 3 and the like, so why not?
@get2sammyb I think its totally possible - after all Sony seem to have a 'good' relationship with Activision at the moment - Destiny and Call of Duty. Whether they could convince Activision to bring Crash back 'exclusively' or not though, time will tell. I quite enjoyed 'Crash' games but they, like R&C are not must haves for me - they are games I pick up when cheap and not a lot else is out.
With Ratchet and Clank due out soon and the success of Yooka-Laylee's Kickstarter, I think its inevitable that we will see a shift from 2D to 3D platformers - they say trends go round and round. 3D platformers basically replaced 2D platformers and we have certainly seen a plethora of 2D games over the past few years.
I do think that last years E3 fell a bit 'flat' for me. The highlight being the announcement of Horizon: Zero Dawn and that is still my most anticipated new IP. Uncharted 4's game play video blew me away but I certainly wasn't bothered by the Last Guardian (which looked virtually identical to the first trailer 7yrs ago and I wasn't interested in it then), A kickstarter appeal for Shenmue 3 (a franchise I didn't particularly like) as well as a number of other games that didn't exactly appeal. Of course its relative - what appeals to one isn't always going to appeal to another. Personally I can think of other years that impressed me more though. As for this year, I am looking forward to hearing more about Horizon and hopefully news of a release date. Obviously I would like to hear about 'new' exclusive IP's but as Naughty Dog and Insomniac should just of released games, Guerilla working on Horizon, Media Molecule working on 'Dreams' (not that it appeals to me at the moment) and I don't have interest in VR (which I can see getting a lot of time and focus), I don't think it will hold many big 'surprises' that appeal.
They should start small. Release the first three games as a trilogy in Ratchet & Clank 2016 graphics level (not so much Pixar of course) and see how it goes. It'll probably be received well and it will provide a platform for further games. People who never played the first three can get an introduction to the series and people who played the first three games are going to have a blast from the past.
@KratosMD Well yeah, the idea for me was to release the trilogy to get people hyped up for a new game. To be honest, if they release a new Crash game I'd rather it be similar to how games up to Crash Bandicoot and The Wrath of Cortex worked, with a central hub and multiple stages all around.
Nah, Nintendo's E3 2014 trumps Sony's 2015 showing by miles. However, it was the best in 2015 (but then again there wasn't much competition)
Half-Life 3 - PS4 exclusive. Now that would be funny.
So....get2sammyb what he has said is they've been at it for 3 months, just as they have every year? News worthy indeed.
In seriousness, if the Crash turns out to be true, I'll have a game to scrap (Which is a waste of money on my end) and I honestly think with the way Sony treats that cartoony subsector of the market, it's too little too late for me to give a toss about it anyway. That ship sailed on the PS4 guys.
Plus, if Crash could come back, it would go to PS4 anyway. They wouldn't market it because lol kids, but only to PS4 because that's what Crash was associated with. Sony never owned Crash, it was always a glorified third party deal, since Universal owned the license.
But that's what Sony is good at though. Glorified third party deals, and neglecting their own IP like they are afraid of money and other markets.
Sony's probably got a big E3 coming up. Lots of games coming in the second half of the year.
Seriously though we may actually get a Persona 5 release date.
I want Shawn Layden to come to the stage (or run down the aisle) wearing a Crash Bandicoot costume. Or, at the very least, holding a wumpa fruit bazooka.
Crash & Spyro returning to playstation would be massive, I'd love to see Medievil or Parappa comeback as well
Also they wanna ask Jack Tretton to comeback it's just not the same without him
@vagineer1 we can dream!!
To be fair to Shawn, he didn't say anything about Crash previously. It's just the shirt that was the problem
I'd imagine it is quite a task to plan, they will want to know what 3rd party games they can show and what exclusives are ready for prime-time.
I honestly think classic Crash gameplay would be a flop in today's market. I know the nostalgia is strong, but have you tried playing a Crash game lately?? They haven't aged well and I don't mean the graphics.
Been playing the first on Vita and I think it's still great personally, just weird using the dpad again
@BAMozzy Rachet and clank will be great ad already preordered. I too wasn't impressed with shenmue or last guardian nor FF 7. But horizon zero dawn needs to come out this yr if it's ready and of course uncharted 4 in order for Sony to have a blockbuster first party exclusive line up. Horizon was the most impressive new IP I've seen in yrs. Rime interest me too and needs to come out this yr.
Ps4 needs a stellar tennis sim like pro tournament or top spin 5 or EA grand slam tennis 3.
@Ewflex Ratchet and Clank, for me at least, are good games in what they are, but not what I call great. Had Insomniac opted to make a new Resistance game, I would of almost certainly pre-ordered. For me that is the best thing to come out of that studio.
I disagree that Horizon needs to come out this for Sony to have a 'blockbuster first party exclusive 2016' There are a number of games that I can see releasing that many will consider to be big blockbusters - even if they don't ALL appeal to me. VR is expected to release and that will no doubt get quite a few 'big' first party exclusives - Rigs, Until Dawn and No Mans Sky to name a few.
Talking of No Mans Sky, that's another 'big' game releasing on PS4 this year. Whilst I may not have much interest in it, Its still a highly anticipated release amongst the community. Gran Tourismo Sport is expected this year along with MLB, Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 and Dreams
There are a number of third party exclusives too like Hellblade, Nier and maybe Wild too.
I admit not many of these appeal 'that' much but combined with the multi-plat releases,I doubt I will be struggling to find something to play. I am sure that many of the people here though will consider this to be a 'blockbuster' year even if Horizon slips to next year.
It would be funny if Naughty Dog did a complete U-turn and made a Crash Bandicoot game. "We really want to bottom out Crash, you know, as a bandicoot. Like what does that mean for him, he spins and things break. How does that make him feel?"
Never fully understood the obsession with Crash. It was a fun ride but not having it doesn't bother me in the least. I honestly think it wouldn't really sell that we'll these days either, just like I don't expect RandC to be a commercial success. I hope I am proven wrong but I just don't see the market for these games anymore.
@GlynCR I can not find it on mine on the store
@BAMozzy I don't care for gravity rush 2, wild, no man sky( that could be a major bust), VR( I don't care about at least not now). I have never been a super sim car guy so grand turismo doesn't excite me. I am more a midnight club, driver, stuntman and need for speed type of gamer. I agree that we are the minority who don't care about most of these ps4 exclusives. I am speaking for myself that Horizon needs to come out in order for it to be a successful holiday, if of course horizon is as good as it looks. I much prefer Rime over Wild.
I will be satisfied if Rachet and clank, UC 4, Sherlock Holmes, ( possibly buy mirror edge or Duex Ex),MLB 16 and great sim tennis game comes out this yr. I wouldn't even mind trying out persona 5 even though I have never played any other the previous persona games. I have never had another console cause I have always liked PS. for its exclusives. Exclusives are what makes which console you buy special. Oh the tomorrow game is too weird for me so no interest in that and dreams doesn't appeal to me either. So far Little big planet is the only game from that studio I like. I bought tearaway unfolded and it was good for awhile but was way too long and dragged out and became tedious.
@Ewflex that's what I'm talking about. Or Anna Kournikovas smash court tennis 2. Come on Sony make it happen.
I love E3. All those companies leaving like EA go and don't come back.
@SonyInfinity yeah I never was into crash either. Some of this obsession is with nostalgia and when the game comes out it want be as good as people remembered it to be.
@themcnoisy I think what really irks me is that their isn't a sim tennis game on ps4 after almost 2 1/2 yrs. How can we have a la crosse and rugby sports game before tennis. Those sports may have grown in popularity but not over tennis. I would be happy to have a able tennis game like rockstar.
@Ewflex Great game, pressing the Y and x button on the 360 for top left spin and just grazing the line before it bounces away. What a superb game, it still had missed inputs at times but nothing like recent tennis game. Do it Rockstar, RDR, Bully and gta 6 can all wait. We need Table Tennis!
@BAMozzy don't forget there biggest exclusive is coming in May
@andrew20 I had to go through my download list to find the Crash games
@GlynCR I mentioned it in my first post and have mentioned it many times across multiple threads. The point I was trying to make was that there were other games releasing besides U4 that could still be classified as 'blockbusters'
I enjoyed Crash back in the day, but it wouldn't really hold up today imo. I mean, people bag on Knack all the time, even though that is essentially Crash with more potential and gameplay mechanics. I'm confused...
