In its most recent livestream of Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, publisher Square Enix detailed how the action role-playing game will differ across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. While both versions of the release will feature the same content, it looks like the new-gen edition will boast some advantages, according to Gematsu.
For starters, the PS4 version will run in 1080p at 60 frames per second, and, as you'd expect, it'll generally look better than its last-gen counterpart. Not the most surprising news, then, but it's nice to hear that the game should provide a silky smooth experience on Sony's latest console.
If you've got the time, we've embedded an archived version of the aforementioned broadcast below, which shows off a decent amount of gameplay and even a brand new Japanese trailer.

i want want want want want this game sooooooo bad haha ^^
StarOcean Fan ever since - ok, Star Ocean 4 was .. meh
Shame they feel the need to make it for the PS3 but i'll certainly take a look at this game.
In my eyes this has been kinda undermined by 3DS' JRPG offering for this year. Still looking forward to this though.
Hope this is as good as Star Ocean Til The End of Time!
@Grawlog FYI - star ocean 3 was on ps2. It goes 1 -jap snes, 2 - ps1, etc one per generation.
After years of defending that there was life left in my PS3, I'll probably have a PS4 by the time this releases, so that's that.
And I'm not really sure I can squeeze it in after XCX and before FFXV. I love me some JRPG, but I need like 6 months off between them. Some day though. Probably,
@Grawlog That ain't true, you may (or may not, at least not straight away, its down to the inidividual really) notice a difference with 120fps being displayed on a 120hz monitor. I like a smooth frame rate but I'm not overly obsessive about it being 60, 30 locked is okay for me if thats all it can do - in fact I'll take 30 locked over 60 flucuating - but i do laugh at the whole "human eye cant see more than 60fps" thing.

@Grawlog fair enough, agreed - though I expect 120'll be the benchmark down the line.
@kyleforrester87 @Grawlog yep i agree i think 30fps is fine and all just make sure it doesn't go below that but if i was a developer id Rather lower the graphics to make the game 60 thou the thing about 120hz is that 4k is growing and most people would move to 4k over 120hz and if they move to 4k they wont be able to push there rigs to 120fps
@SKC_Diamond also true
I can only hope they keep the grand Star Ocean tradition of at least one example of /terrible/ voice acting. It's not fun unless my ears bleed eventually.
@Labyrinthman
Energyyyy.... Arrowww.... SO Second Story was cool like that.
But if you're specifically refering to Last Hope. Ugh, that was one of the very few instances where I was forced to switch to the japanese VAs, it was just that gringeworthy, though sadly that didn't make the characters any more likeable.
@Expa0 Last Hope was that bad, m'kaaaaaaaay.....
(and I swear if I heard Sarah yell "Lightning BlAAAaaAAAst...." any more I would have swapped her from the party)
i actualy enjoyed last hope, save for the part when lloyd went all emo cos alternative earth got nuked, the last quarter was the best thou, with that chick with the bazongas and red hair wanted to kill that dude with red hair , my fav character was the bad ass merc with the laser axe thing but yeah fav story ocean was the third one, hopefully star ocean is back on form.
@xMEADx yea agreed, but I think they realize their biggest market for this game is in Japan and there are certainly more ps3s in Japan than ps4s.
I like the occasional jrpg, probably about 1 per year now (in my younger years I was almost an exclusive jrpg player) It seems like we have some real treats coming very soon. Any announcement on the release date for Persona 5? I have unfortunately never played any of the other entries and many people online are telling me that if I even consider myself a casual fans of jrpgs that I MUST play the persona games. Anyone know if you need to have played the previous titles in persona or star ocean to fully enjoy the new entries?
@SonyInfinity that's a good point, i'd not thought of that. I also think 30 fps is fine as well, 60 is better but it doesn't bother me if I buy a game in 30 or 60 fps tbh.
