Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below was a great action role-playing game, but we couldn't help but feel that the title's two main characters, Luceus and Aurora, were a bit boring in comparison to the rest of the game's colourful cast. As such, it's nice to see that sequel Dragon Quest Heroes II will offer up a new duo, who, at least visually, seem a little more interesting.
We've got our first look at the fresh protagonists and a couple of other party members thanks to a scan of the latest issue of Weekly Jump. The text, kindly translated by Gematsu, introduces each of the new characters - all of whom have been designed by legendary Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.
First up, we've got Razel, the male protagonist, who is described as passionate and energetic. It looks as though he wields two swords. Next, we've got the female protagonist, Tereshia. Pictured with just one blade, she's apparently level-headed. Both lead characters are student knights, and they're going to be fighting alongside Cesare, a prince with a large sword on his back, and Orneze, a respected warrior who likes to swing a gigantic axe around. All in all, they sound like a pretty fun group.

Cesare looks pretty bad a$$.
That and the slime (in the scan) who's wielding two swords. Hope he's in the game.
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of Lucius to be honest. Started with him but after around 3 hours of playing I decided to switch to Aurora instead and start over. XD
@WanderingBullet Luceus and Aurora were a bit too one-note I thought. Luceus would start to blabber and Aurora would tell him to shut up. She'd charge into battle and Luceus would follow her while telling her not to rush. Got old after the fifth time it happened!
@ShogunRok Agreed, and its the "Luceus would start to blabber" part which annoyed the heck out of me. lol I also preferred Aurora since she could freeze enemies with her ice elemental attack.
@WanderingBullet True, I think Aurora was generally more useful because of her ice.

I really hope they don't repeat the one-note theme again in the sequel with Razel running off to battle and Tereshia having to chase after him everytime. lol
Btw, any guesses on how the multiplayer is gonna be like for the game?
@WanderingBullet Tough to say, I think it may just end up being the standard Omega Force co-op. Hopefully you won't have to send an invite after every level if you're playing online!
@ShogunRok Ah, I see cause they've mentioned something about a 4 player co-op last year. Plus, I've only played Dragon Quest Heroes and Toukiden: Kiwami so far. May have to look up videos of some of their older games which had co-op then. Oh wow, that reinvite part doesn't sound like fun. XD
I agree that the two main characters of DQH were a bit flat, but then that's the tradition for DQ. They're normally the blank slate type of character. I guess the problem with Heroes specifically is that it wasn't really an RPG like the usual games, the blank slate, understated main character didn't really work as well there. Notice how the other two original characters in DQH, the Scottish boomerang lady and King Brian Blessed, had more personality and uniqueness in their design.
That said, DQ is intentionally a bit generic. The whole point of it is to do a typical Western Fantasy thing. The name "Dragon Quest" says it all. It seems exotic to the Japanese but very ordinary to us. It'd be like if a British developer made a game based on Japanese Fantasy and the main character was a ninja called Shinji who had a samurai friend called Katana-san who fought against the evil Oni from Old Tokyo while eating sushi. It would be called something like Nihon Monogatari.
Anyway, these two new ones look much more like characters you'd get as party members in a normal DQ rather than the heroes. It makes sense, especially since in Warriors games there isn't really a main character, just a large cast of different ones.
i hope we get this one too DQ Heroes was a great game
