If you think that PlayStation Plus is bad now, this author can remember when the monthly update included a retro Mega Drive title, a PlayStation Mini, and a handful of PlayStation 3 themes. The service has changed exponentially since then, and as a reward for lifetime members sticking with the subscription model for all five years of its life, Sony's been sending out these commemorative stats plaques.
The gifts were actually promised months ago, but it seems like the platform holder upped its budget in that time. We were expecting a poster, but instead we've received a framed picture, including all sorts of data about our PlayStation past. It's actually a really high-quality pressie: the frame is sturdy, the printed text is sharp, and the whole package arrived sealed in a PlayStation Plus branded box set. Above and beyond, really.
So, what can we learn from it?
- Sammy clearly doesn't play his PlayStation Plus titles for very long. 14 hours with his most played game isn't a whole lot really, is it?
- In fact, does Sammy even play games at all? 53 hours total online time with the PlayStation 4 seems like nothing – though we suspect that this is referring purely to competitive or co-operative multiplayer games, which aren't really Sammy's fave. [Writing in third-person is weird sometimes - Ed]
- Sony doesn't know how to use an apostrophe. Seriously, we just can't figure out that errant squiggle at the end of 'Number of Friends'.
- If the platform holder's tracking these stats, then it should really incorporate them into the PS4 dashboard. After all, we'd love to see some operating system-level data on our most played games and so on.
Seriously, though, this is a really nice touch from the manufacturer, and while it's only offered the reward in Europe, we're still pretty impressed with the quality of the gift. It's always nice to be appreciated, after all, so if you did get one of these, we hope that you intend to put it on display like we do.

Ahem Sony of EUROPE. SoA never bothered with any of this, sadly.
Honestly don't know what half of these "stats" mean, but it still looks cool!
@get2sammyb 53 hours total online time with the PlayStation 4 seems like nothing – though we suspect that this is referring purely to competitive or co-operative multiplayer games,
Fancy boosting that on Tuesday for our Rocket League Evening?
I've always thought they could easily incorporate a couple of stats such as Platinums per day / Golds per day / Silver etc. So it would look like 0.05 / 0.25 / 1.0 etc also the day you scored the most levelling points ie 14.11.15 - 2 plats / 9 golds / 62 bronze - 4000 points etc etc. Bit of a missed opportunity as trophy collecting is a meta game after all.
@themcnoisy Haha, I'd love to play Rocket League with you guys, but I just can't really commit to these multiplayer events sadly. I totally agree with you on the stats thing, though - I love this kind of stuff and I can't understand why they don't do more of it. I know it's probably a strain on the database, but I think it would be a valuable addition.
@get2sammyb how did you get these stats I would like to know mine?
@SKC_Diamond You can't get them - they're printed on the plaques that Sony's sending out to lifetime PlayStation Plus members in Europe.
@get2sammyb oh so that picture is actually one you took and not a generic one sony made?
@SKC_Diamond No, it's made by Sony - but everyone gets a unique plaque based on their stats.
@get2sammyb ahh ok I do agree with you thou I wish they did show stats like these on the actual os I want to see time played on a single game
Meh, I've only been a member since I bought my Vita a couple of months before PS4 Launch, didn't even know PS Plus existed on PS3 as I never played online. Oh well.
I wonder if it includes "brief lapses in membership"...
Like being broke for a week or so, when you're due for renewal?
I'd have really liked this. Sadly I didn't get a PS3 until around when the PS4 came out and I haven't even had PS+ the whole time anyway. I've in a year sub now, though, so maybe I'll get one in another 5 years.
"we'd love to see some operating system-level data on our most played games and so on."
This. So much this. The Wii had a nice record of hour splayed per game, until Nintneod di daway w/ the channel. The 3DS has it laid out in a very sort-able book, and the Wii U has it in a daily bar graph. I have no idea why it's in a bar graph, I don't want to keep track of my gaming in a bar graph, but I do like looking at the numbers to see how long I've played each game. Not so much the daily stats, but overall it's nice to see if I've gotten my money's worth. Over 150 hours on Splatoon says yes. And more importantly how long my kids have played each game each day. I know about how long they play on the tv, but those 3DS hours can really add up.
So, still no game play log on the PS4? A glaring omission.
Europe only? Dang. Though surely I would be unable to get it because of a lapse of a day or so here and there. Still nifty though.
I've been a Plus sub since day one, and this is the first time I've heard off this. How did you get or hear Sammy?
@masofdas Are you in Europe?
Nice touch from Sony. You know a company's doing well when they start doing things like this!
@get2sammyb Unfortunately I was unsubbed for a month or two so I don't count as a lifetime member.
Fortunately this plaque would be pretty empty. I assume that "monthly titles" refers to the IGC, in which case my downloads would be near 0, my total play time would be near 0, and the most played would be near 0. I keep my friends to a minimum (deleting any that I don't regularly play with) so that would be ~3-5. and I play online so rarely (once or twice a week when I wouldplay FFXIV) that it would hardly register. I almost want one of these just to see all those zeros (or low numbers!) like a badge of honor!
I think that would have supposed to read 'friends' (aka just ppl you met online labeled as friends.)
@Mithrandir There was some scientific research done that proved that one person cannot have more than ~150 friends, anything more than that is a "friend". Personally I think that number is still insanely high.
@thedevilsjester True. For me, that number is about 2-3 TOPS... (Yeah, I'm not that social beyond the social media )
@Mithrandir @thedevilsjester A lot of people add me off here to be honest.
@get2sammyb yeah I am
@get2sammyb
Lovely windowsill Sammy, love the flowers...
Nice touch from Sony. I didn't pick up a PS3 until very late though so only been on PS Plus for a couple years. Would love to know my stats though!
Mine's in the mail. No mention of trophies earned!
Really don't know how ANYONE can complain about Plus! I renewed my membership this month soley for Nihilumbra on Vita!! Already had Grim and the PS4 car thang looked crap! At just a few quid a month its more than a good deal!!!
@fluggy It is, but you know what people are like.
This makes me super disappointed that I let my subscription lapse for a week or two at one point. Been there from day 1 and even in those old days I thought the value of the service was incredible (I had a lot more time on my hands to play through those minis and megadrive games )
Knowing the hours played on a game can sometimes be a horrific discovery. i checked around the 1 year anniversary of Destiny. I am ashamed at the time I put into it. So many days gone...(don't play anymore Destiny 1 is dead imo)
Nice, I get those facts from MS twice a year and it's nice to see how many hours you have played and which game you played the most.
They should do this for all of their PS Plus Players
