The first time that we saw Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, it looked as though it was a long way from being finished - so it's nice to see that developer tri-Ace has made a lot of progress over the last few months.
In fact, the game's looking pretty great right now on the PlayStation 4, as evidenced by the footage that we've embedded. Part of a Square Enix livestream, there's almost an hour of gameplay to gaze upon, which includes general exploration, menu navigation, and battles with tough looking monsters.
The action role-playing release is due out in Japan in February next year, and while us Westerners are still waiting on a confirmed date, the game's still slated for a 2016 launch in both Europe and North America.

looking good plus that in battle party was HUGE for a JRPG
@FullbringIchigo "...battle party was HUGE for a JRPG"
I was about to say that as well. lol
Looks good! And I hated SO4 with a passion...
How can Square Enix pull this off with Star Ocean but not Kingdom Hearts or even Final Fantasy?!? Whichever development team they have on this should lead every project.
My inner weeaboo is emerging....
I'm so hyped!
@eaglebob345 I'm guessing this is less Square and more Enix.
Square's been all downhill since it's Squaresoft days. Lost all focus making The Bouncer's 20 minutes of gameplay for PS2. From that game forward it was all about the graphics, with gameplay taking a back seat. (boy, I bet that turns into a bad pun often when FFXV reelases.)
Games like these are the very reason I purchased a PS4 over an Xbox One. JRPGs are the best.
oh my god I want it NOW !!!! loved star ocean so much back then, the 4th was such a disappointment, but the new one looks so amazing!!! Im also hyped as can be, next year will be major for us JRPG Fans: DarkSouls3 (ok, no traditional JRPG ^^), Persona 5, Star Ocean 5, FinalFantasy15, ... I need to save up some vacation lol
