Street Fighter V will release as a console exclusive on the PlayStation 4. This means that there'll be a PC version of the game, but it's unlikely to ever make its way to the Xbox One. And in an interview with GameSpot, producer Yoshinori Ono sent the following message to fans of other formats: "There's plenty of time to save $300 before the game comes out," he laughed. "The PS4 is at a very attractive price point at the moment."
While the comments may rub some the wrong way, it's pretty clear that Capcom's freshest fighting foray will not be releasing anywhere else in the near future. And, while it's a shame for fans of the franchise that don't have a PS4, it does sound like Sony's been heavily involved with the development of this game – the publisher said that it couldn't afford to make it a couple of years ago. The question is: would you buy a new console purely to fling fireballs?

well i wouldn't buy a XB1 just for Rise of the Tomb Raider so i doubt many would buy a PS4 just for Street Fighter V
although none of the other XB1 exclusives appeal to me but if the PS4 has exclusives that appeal to people who want SFV then they might buy one
I know that PS4 has quite a few fighting games so for fans of the genre, it maybe something they would consider. Its not like Xbox owners don't have any fighting games with Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat etc.
As I am personally not a fan of the genre and wouldn't even play one if given one free, I don't know if the genre is anywhere near as popular as it once was. Maybe SFv will appeal to those old school fighter fans and maybe get a few new fans from the PS4 but I can't see it having the pull to warrant buying a console for on its own - a combination of the other PS4 exclusives and 3rd party deals may convince them though...
If Square Enix/Crystal Dynamix had said something similar to this though with regards to Laras year long console exclusivity on Xbox, I think we would have seen a lot more animosity than it received.
@BAMozzy I dunno. This would be shady if it was a timed exclusive, as I'm not so hot on companies paying to delay versions of games. I include Sony in that.
Hahaha, that's hilarious. Though I don't think there are that many days left until Black Friday to save up - unless, of course, he's knows about a price that will come along by the time Street Foghter V comes along.
lmao thats what I call "in your face" haha
seriously: I doubt that SF5 will be a system seller
dont get me wrong, I love SF since 2 on SNES and Im really lookin forward to the next one, but I doubt it will be seen as the next system seller
That was cold lol.
I'd definitely buy a console just for SFV, I poured about 400 hours into SFIV
For families, especially father's with young sons, street fighter is awesome. Doesn't have all the rip your face off gore of a mortal kombat but still is one of the best fighters ever. The coop and versus options make this great for a father son duo, I know because my son and I played quite a bit of sf4.
I'm not a fighting game fan really (SSB being the exception) so I wouldnt buy a new console for SFV.
I would however, save up to build a really good gaming PC. That way, not only do you get SFV, but most of the other good games too. It's console exclusive, not platform exclusive Mr. Ono.
I think it's going to be a system seller for fans, Street Fighter has a lot of fans.
I found that comment irritating and I am both a PS and SF fan...
@get2sammyb I agree the situation is of course different in the fact that SFv is a permanent exclusive compared to Tomb Raiders time exclusivity. If they came out and said 'there is still time to buy an XB1 if you can't wait a year' though, that would no doubt cause a lot of upset - more than it already has.
As I have stated elsewhere, I totally disagree with any form of multi-platform exclusive - whether that is timed (content and/or DLC) or permanent extras (like content missions etc). I did have less issue with SFiv which had a different exclusive character depending on format - I can't remember exactly what though as I don't play this genre.
I know I am in a position to take advantage of these type of deals - i.e buying for the console that gets these bonuses and often that is the deciding factor with 3rd party games. Why buy for a console that actually gets less content or even that content at a later date and yet pay the same for it? I know I do have certain games on both - some of that is due to which console I had first and some because of family and friends. I do think its wrong though and does more harm than it actually benefits.
I think that Sony/MS should be responsible for their own Exclusives and not have any 3rd party part exclusive deals (i.e extras, earlier access etc). I don't think ANY franchise should become exclusive if it has been multi-platform. The only 3rd Party exclusives should be new IP's or existing franchise exclusives - games that have never appeared on a certain platform (historically too). If developers/publishers need the 'cash' for these games from MS/Sony, I really don't see how they can't joint finance for different 'exclusives' such as cosmetic bonuses or different characters in something like SF.
This game is one of the main reasons why I want a PS4. I'll have one soon. Still sucks it's not coming to Xbox One though.
Sucks but understandable. Capcom in its current state can't afford to create new big budget AAA multiplats actively atm. Would be surprised that if RE7 happens ends up being PS4 first.
Nobody was complaining when ps2 had all those third party exclusive games.
@FullbringIchigo my thoughts exactly. I wouldn't unless it's a game you want as well as other ps4 games. Like I didn't buy an Xbox for just Halo 5. I bought it for all the exclusives. Halo 5, halo 6, Rare Replay, etc. Same thing for my ps4, Blood borne, killzone shadow fall. And any multiplatform game I get on whatever I think feels and plays better on.
Street Figter is one of those franchises that is so iconic that I feel it should be released on every platform, even the Wii U in some watered down version. When games like the Order, Sunset Overdrive or Bloodborne are exclusive I don't really mind because they make a fresh start on that console. When Bayonetta 2 can't be funded and Nintendo steps in, I can live with that. But when a series that sold 8- 9 million copies last gen and is known by every gamer, I get really pissed. This could've been financed in another way and it's truly the most horrible decision in a long line of questionable actions by Capcom; we're not talking Dead Rising, Monster Hunter or even Resident Evil here, it's Street -flippen- Fighter, the game an entire generation grew up on.
I really hope MS is gonna take up the glove and will invest heavily in Killer Instinct. They could turn this small disaster into something good if they give KI the promotion and care it deserves. But they really have been snoozing or there are some political games going on behind the scenes, because going from designated platform for the pros to left out in the cold is something that little would've seen coming. In terms of actual sales this probably won't even hurt Capcom that much. Heck, I can totally see people who otherwise wouldn't be interested buying this because of the exclusivity...but it's Just(in) W(r)ong.
@Alpha i'm lucky though i never brought one but my brother did he didn't like it and gave it to me #ImALuckyGit^_^
If that comment was by anyone else, I would be pretty steamed. But it's Ono, who made jerky statements like this before, so ehh.
I feel like that statement was more for serious fighting game players more than anyone. Those guys are the kind who'll buy every game and revision if it keeps them competitive and up-to-date.
Street fighter is a system seller for alot of ppl out there. I find it funny that a Capcom rep basically saids to buy a PS4 flat out lol
lol, that's funny. I'll likely be picking this up when it drops.
We wouldn't buy an XB1 for Tomb Raider but then it is coming out on PS4 next year...
Street fighter is the biggest fighting game franchise and isn't coming to XB1, I could see some people buying a PS4 for it. There's bound to be something else worth buying the console for next year too.
Somebody from Crystal Dynamics said similar bs before it was officially known that Rise of the Tomb Raider would come to PS4. So stupid. Sign the deal and shut up.
@Neolit I find it funny the crystal dynamics pissed me off even more with Tombraider but you will get the nice Tombraider PSN game. What made it even worse that they faking that Tombraider was alltime exclusive.... I don't like 3rd party exclusives but hey maybe it was a answer to Tombraider being a exclusive but That's a guess. Maybe they payed the same way as with Bayonetta God the PS3 version was horrible. They just gave Sega a game build for Xbox and a short time to port it to PS3,
Haha, such a blunt answer! I like it!
Ya, that's Ono for ya. He's always seemed down to earth- casual so to speak. He's not just some suit running a corporation. He's a creator through and through.
That's why I don't know why this is being taken as if some suit said it.
