We really hope that you didn't put too much stock into the rumour that No Man's Sky was releasing this week, because the title's new trailer says otherwise. After what seems like an eternity, the ambitious indie project finally has some sort of release window - and we're sad to say that it's not terribly close.
Thankfully, it's not horribly out of reach, either. No Man's Sky will land on the PlayStation 4 at some point in June next year - and that's all you're getting. With this announcement, we reckon that Sony's probably going to cool off on showing the game for a while now, and return next year with the hype machine kicked into overdrive.
Meanwhile, the new trailer itself is actually pretty cool, so be sure to give it a watch and get all excited before you remember that the launch date is still around eight months away.

Not a game I am looking forward to. I can see this being quite boring. I can't say I am impressed by the art style either. I am not surprised it has slipped to mid 2016 and can see it slipping to the end of the year too. Seems big on ambition and scale but I can't help feeling it will lack 'substance'
@BAMozzy What do you fancy then COD 30 or FIFA 2100, BF20.
@BAMozzy I really wanna know?
@Flaming_Kaiser Sorry but @BAMozzy's opinion is entirely valid. I also think this game is going to get very boring quite quickly. I can pretty much guarantee I'll be getting it, but I'd put money on it not living up to the hype.
The thing about CoD and BF to a degree is that they have an interesting if somewhat cliched Campaign. They also have a great MP too with a lot of things to unlock. The MP is also not that predictable and great fun to play with friends. CoD also comes with a great co-operative experience too - I really enjoy Zombies even if the enemy type is over-done nowadays but there is that co-operative game play, achieving something with friends etc. All those games add new features every year as well as freshen up the MP/co-op in the way of DLC too.
I really can't see this having that much depth and substance to it. After visiting one planet, just move on to the next and then the next and then the next with each being similar in essence and the options too. It looks 'slow' paced, has no story etc. After a while all the different planets are going to feel like the same but with a different colour palette and I bet you will end up with feeling deja vu.
Whilst games like CoD and BF may be relatively frequent releases and retain similarities from previous games in their franchise, they also offer variety in their options (SP, co-op and MP). I doubt they will win a game of the year award and I see them as the gaming equivalent of a big summer blockbuster movie that doesn't/won't win an oscar. Hugely entertaining and great fun and I would rather watch these movies than an ambitious but boring indie that has no substance or story and visually unimpressive any day.
@Flaming_Kaiser I wouldn't mind FIFA 2100, that would be my 90th ultimate team. Cod 20 should be within the next 10 years as well. Great shout for both games.
Looking forward to NMS and Doom the most - but hyped for Driveclub bikes and GT too. Yay!!!
YES! June doesn't sound bad, I can deal with that. I'm glad the trailer alludes to some sort of story. I was worried there was none to be had.
I'm still kinda split on this. This is one of those games that has "divisive" written all over it.
I wasn't expecting it to release anytime soon, and honestly, I'll be surprised if it makes that date. Titles like this always go through ridiculous development time.
I'm pretty excited for it myself. Sucks we have to wait until June though.
I'm glad they left in some unflattering pop-in. It shows this is actually in-engine and in a game like this it's fair enough.
Not surprised, I was quite excited for this game when it was first announced as I'm a huge space nut. But as time has gone on and this game has been pushed like crazy I can't help but feel jaded and honestly quite annoyed. This just seems to ambitious and I feel like it will end up in a similar situation as Watch Dogs. It takes supercomputers to accurately model the universe and the PS4 is certainly not that. I simply feel that it is impossible for this game to live up to expectations.
So it's probably either going to be a PSVR exclusive (at least on the PS4) or at least timed to be launched with PSVR. That's my take on it anyway.
Fingers crossed this turns out to be the 'Elite' of our generation.
@DerMeister To be honest I'd be surprised if they announced a June release window without being absolutely confident in it. Hello Games have shown awareness already that they probably announced the game to soon and, although it was in no way their fault, the earlier delays due to their studio flooding and losing a lot of work on the game really didn't help.
At this point they know that people are eagerly awaiting the release, and I think they'll be well aware that announcing a release window and letting it slip again is going to be harmful to the game.
