We haven't seen all that much of Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, but we have known for a while that it's releasing in 2016. Earlier today during Sony's Tokyo Game Show press conference, Square Enix revealed that the role-playing game is launching on the 25th February in Japan, and showcased new gameplay courtesy of a fresh trailer.
The action role-playing game looks suitably pretty, and it certainly seems to retain the same sci-fi wonder of past instalments. We get a quick look at battles, characters, and a few different settings - and while it doesn't quite boast the hype levels of other upcoming Japanese RPGs, we reckon it'll still be one to watch next year.

I'm still not on board with how the characters all look like foam dolls - and to be fair, the characters in SO games have looked like weird dolls from SO3 onwards - but the environments look amazing. I can't wait to explore those beautiful towns.
Completely forgot that this was being released. Still, excited for it. I'll have to write this one down on my RPG list so I don't forget.
I love the 16 bit era aesthetic. Hopefully the cast won't be as annoying as SO4.
I'm way excited for this game! I hope 2-25-2016 ends up being a worldwide release date!
Excited for this. I hate JRPGs, but Star Ocean is the only one I really like.
While I absolutely wish to play SO5... I shudder to think what horrible combination of voice actor and character waits for us. You know there's one in there. Somewhere.

Neither the vid nor the article mention system. Is it both PS3 and PS4? Looks good, but I think the PS3 could handle it, as it looks a lot like the last one I played on PS3.
After watching that awful ff world kids game trailer then watching this I have come to the conclusion that Lost Odyssey on the xbox 360 is the last great jrpg I will ever play.
Whereas other companies have matured and make games for the gamers that grew up with them (rockstar take a bow) Square have regressed into some children's rpg lite developer.
For some reason, it gives me a Rogue Galaxy vibe.
@rjejr Both, but it's being mainly developed with the PS4 in mind.
@ToddlerNaruto Thanks, that what I thought. Really looks more like a PS3 than PS4 game though.
@themcnoisy I have no idea what Lost Odyssey is but Xenoblade Chronicles was one of the best JRPG I've ever played, brought me back to the glory days of PS1 and PS2 games. And XCX looks almost as good.

Great game, it wasn't greatly received - at the time a lot of games reviewers were looking to the future if the rpg genre and rightly so as it released a couple of years into last gen. When you play the game for what it is, possibly the climax of the standard jrpg template its like playing a mix of ff6, ff8 and ff10. The better characters become available on the latter part of disc 2 - the link systems become available and the amount of ability options opens up with the crazy unlimited ring crafting. There's good cgi, airships, wars, maniac leaders, flawed protagonists and lovely graphics.
Highly recommended.
