Time certainly flies, as evidenced by the fact that it's somehow September. Yeah, we don't understand it either, but we suppose that we have to go ahead and announce August's Game of the Month anyway. Leading steadily into the holiday rush that's about to hit Push Square Towers like a freight train, August was a pretty solid period for good games. Perhaps there weren't too many blockbusters hitting store shelves, but there was still more than enough enjoyable content floating around. But, as always, only one title can take home the Platinum Trophy crown, so let's go ahead dive straight in.
Bronze Trophy: Galak-Z: The Dimensional

Sufficiently scratching that 80s anime itch, Galak-Z: The Dimensional brought explosions, intense intergalactic dogfights, and good old mechs to the PlayStation 4 last month. Sam Brooke was in the pilot's seat for this one, blasting out a review that described the often punishingly difficult release as "one helluva ride". Sam gave this indie gem an impressive score of 9/10 before taking a shot to his thrusters and careering full speed into an asteroid field. 80s anime is brutal like that.
Silver Trophy: Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

A divisive release even among the staff of this very publication, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture still managed to grab enough votes to confirm its place on August's list of best games. Reviewed by none other than Kell Andersen, frontrunner for Push Square's Pun of the Year award, he marked the Chinese Room's stunning looking creation as "a masterwork", before presenting it with a brilliant 9/10.
Gold Trophy: One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3

"You disgusting weebs," muttered editor Sammy Barker when we broke the news that One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 had beaten Rapture to the Gold Trophy. We called the beat-'em-up "a joy to play" in our 8/10 review, citing its "immensely fun and varied character roster" as its greatest asset. Indeed, Luffy and the gang are fully deserving of their place on this list, even if it means that the boss is going to ban all talk of Warriors games in the office. Well, until the next one comes out.

Platinum Trophy: Until Dawn
Ah, you can almost still smell the lingering fear – the fear that Until Dawn was going to be a colossal flop. We were pretty sure that SuperMassive's choose-your-own-horror title was going to be panned by critics, but it actually turned out to be scarily good, much to Sammy Barker's relief. He dubbed the release "a pleasant surprise, and something that fans of interactive stories will really appreciate". Carving an 8/10 into its still-warm corpse [Really? - Ed], the slasher-flick-gone-Telltale is easily one of this year's most memorable games.
And so we close the book on another month of PlayStation history. Do you agree with our winner, or even our nominees? Vote for your favourite game of August 2015 in our poll, and then tell us all about your choice in the comments section below.

If you'd have told me this time last year that Until Dawn would win Game of the Month, I wouldn't have believed you. Even when I was reviewing it I thought other people were going to hate it.
Still bitter about One Piece beating Rapture, though!
@get2sammyb if you had told me I'd play until dawn sooner than I played ark ham knight, I'd have said you were crazy. Until dawn is a super well made game.
@get2sammyb I am loving Dawn at the moment. In fact, my Wife enjoys watchin me play it (whilst hidding under a blanket of course!)
Until Dawn Is my Game Of The Year. Amazing gameplay, voice acting, graphics, story and atmosphere, thank you soo much supermassive game for bringing such a game to us playstation gamers.
That asteroid field story is true, by the way. That's why I haven't been here for a while!
Metal Gear Solid V
What? I got it at 11 PM on August 31...
@B3ND3R Official date is 1st September. Don't worry, it'll walk next month.
Until Dawn is possibly my favourite game this year so far, I like many wasn't expecting anything of it and wasn't even thinking about buying. Then I saw a playtest and when the reviews came out I thought I'd have to give it a go and I'm very happy that I did. It's just so unique in this world of fps and open world adventures and has made me jump on more than one occasion. I'm already looking forward to my second playthrough even though I'm only half way through, to see how much you can change
Out of the games listed I have only played Rapture. I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would. I plan on picking up Dawn at some point. I love Heavy Rain and TellTale kinda games.
Haven't bought Until Dawn yet but I did get a chance to play a nice portion of it when visiting some relatives recently. Given how terrible I thought it seemed from stage showings I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but it was easily the best PlayStation release in August and is one of the better games overall in 2015. When taken into account how the game got its start for the Move peripheral, I'd say it came a long way and the team behind it did a great job. Look forward to seeing what that studio does next.
The fact I did a play through in 2 days (I'm not usually that addicted) shows how much fun I had with Until Dawn. I guess I couldn't vote for Rapture as while I bought it, I ended up getting motion sickness! Sad times... I'll try and play through blindfolded I guess!
@get2sammyb ye of little faith, mad max could win :/ isn't Fifa out as well?
I see what you mean.
Until Dawn!
@BrizzoUK
I've been talking to a lot of people who did the same as you, got the game and were instantly hooked. This is one I have to admit wasn't on the radar at all as far as a purchase or even a playthrough but now with these comments and what little I did play, it's shot to the top of the must-buy list once I get through MGS V, which likely will take a couple months given the size of the game and the way I like to play. Hoping maybe by the time I'm done in mid-to-late October there will be a sale on Until Dawn.
@Gamer83 Yeah was only my love of cheesy teen slasher that got me to get it. It's great as if you ever watch them you spend so long questioning their awful decisions that now you can actually make them for them. It's a great weekend play through game with other people. I now have MGSV, having only ever played GZ I'm still somehow massively hooked, even if I do just B Rank after having to blow my stealth approach and get the C4 out!
@BrizzoUK
Have to enjoy a 'so bad it's good' cheesy teen slasher. That's what got me into the game as well, the few hours I did play. It was a group of us and we were sharing the controller and helping each other make decisions, though not really a multiplayer game it was definitely a blast to play with a group.
Cool that you're enjoying MGS V. Having played all the other ones I'd say The Phantom Pain is definitely the most accessible to newcomers while still being satisfying for us long-time players as well. I do miss some of the crazy cutscenes but you still get good bits of story through cassettes and I can look past certain things when the gameplay itself is so damn addictive. And for a cross-gen game, it looks stunning. The Fox Engine is a beast.
@Gamer83 Yeah definitely a great experience with friends, especially with non-gamer friends it becomes a great option (something I feel the ps4 lacks otherwise).
Yeah I'd heard that, just couldn't resist after the rave reviews. Yeah as a newcomer, the cutscenes would have been a struggle (I'd heard about a 70 minute one!), they feel about right atm. I've been on Wikipedia and various gaming sites to at least learn the backstory... Well what I could keep up with anyway! It's just good that the gameplay a free approach makes it so addictive, I love that even the side ops don't feel like busy work.
@Gamer83 Also I'm massively back logging on those cassette tapes... Think I've got like 40 to listen to!
@BrizzoUK
Those cassette tapes can pile up quick but it seems that's where most of the story lies and I do kind of like the way they've handled that. But, my favorite part of collecting cassette tapes is finding some of my favorite tunes from my younger years. Love being able to rock out to the final countdown as go from one mission to another.
