Bright and beautiful

The sun has set on another not-so glorious summer week, in which the weather has been temperamental and the gaming news sporadic. Still, at least we have a new issue of WAYP to pad out our features section, eh? Here's what the team – with a few new faces – will be playing this weekend.

Sammy Barker, Editor

I'm having a fantastic time with many of the PlayStation 4's digital games at the moment. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is top of my list this weekend, but I'm also having a grand old time with TorqueL, which has proved a real pleasant surprise.

Robert Ramsey, Associate Editor

No doubt some of you will want to give me a kicking for this, but I think I'll be playing Destiny this weekend. With The Taken King gradually getting closer – and the fact that I'll probably be the one reviewing it – I need to make sure that my new Guardian is in tip top form, and that means grinding until my DualShock 4's triggers fall off. Don't judge me – I'm already lost to the void.

I'll be continuing my Rocket League training, which has yet to kick into an 80s style montage where I actually become any good. Writing an article on Persona 4 has made me yearn to see those characters again so I'll probably be falling into that 80 hour time sink yet again.

With only limited time for gaming this weekend, I'm thinking of replaying Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes ahead of the imminent release of The Phantom Pain. Since it only takes a couple of hours to complete it'll help me get in the mood for some tactical espionage action, though having watched all of the demos for the next instalment I think that it's going to be a bit of a departure that may not be to the taste of all Metal Gear Solid fans.

While there are an obscene amount of games coming my way in the next few weeks, I don't think that I've quite had my fill of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture just yet. Engrossing and fantastic, I couldn't be happier with that game. And while I've neglected my Xbox One for a solid seven or eight months, Rare Replay is more than enough of a reason for me to give Microsoft's console some love this weekend, too.

This weekend I'll mostly be playing Persona 3 Portable, edging into the closing moments and gearing up for the final boss battle. During my P3P breaks, I'll be jumping into LEGO Jurassic World, putting in the hours to get my 50th Platinum.

Last weekend I completed Limbo, so I'll continue sifting through my latest stockpile of PlayStation Plus goodies from August 2015's Instant Game Collection. I realise that feedback regarding Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris recommends playing its story in co-op with friends, but I'm happy to raid tombs in its Egyptian underworld all by my lonesome.

After having a friend over from Missouri for the past two weeks and now worrying about my first step into pursuing a Masters degree in the coming weeks, I'm going to spend my penultimate weekend of no school finishing up Flower, followed by equally soothing and relaxing (not really, though) matches of Rocket League. Oh, and Ramsey, are you man enough to 1v1 me, mate? I'll be waiting in my blue racing car.

This weekend I'll be tearing my hair out in Gauntlet: Slayer Edition, which is devilishly difficult at times. I'm gathering my friends and we'll be playing through as much of it as possible before one of us has a stress-related heart attack.

This weekend I will be facing Smaug the dragon in LEGO The Hobbit. I will also be playing both Episodes 3 and 4 of Life Is Strange, and if I have any spare time between those I may play the PlayStation Plus goodies: Tomb Raider and the Temple of Osiris, CastleStorm, Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones, God of War: Ascension, and Sound Shapes.

After seeing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture garner some impressive reviews, you'll find me trotting through an abandoned 80s Shropshire village this weekend. If I get any other gaming time, then maybe, just maybe, I'll actually get round to playing some more Batman: Arkham Knight. I will finish that game eventually, I promise.

That's our quota of hot air consumed for the day, so now it's your turn. What will you be playing this weekend? Dig out your DualShock in the comments section below.
