It's almost time to pack up our things and leave the Push Square office for the day, so of course the PlayStation Blog has posted 41 facts about No Man's Sky. Fortunately, we like to think that we're professionals, so we'll take the time to detail some of the more important points that you may not know about in this very article.
First up, yes, you'll be able to play the game offline. This has been mentioned before, but it's worth noting again purely because we still see people asking about this on a regular basis. Next, Hello Games stresses that the upcoming PlayStation 4 release isn't a massively multiplayer online title. This is mostly because you'll have to be incredibly lucky to run into any other players since the in-game universe is so ridiculously vast.
Moving on, you'll have a jetpack which you can use to reach new heights, and planets aren't created randomly. As mentioned about a million times already, planets are procedurally generated, but they're actually defined by their position in space. In other words, planets far from the sun will likely be icy affairs, while those that are positioned at a reasonable distance will be full of life, much like our little blue marble.
Speaking of procedural generation, No Man's Sky is taking the technology to the next level with procedurally generated animal cries and music. Yes, you read that right - even the audio builds itself.
As for gameplay details, there'll be factions that you can join, while all of your gear, including your weapon and ship, can be upgraded so that you can explore more dangerous regions of space, presumably without getting eaten alive. What's more, you should probably know that there's no story - there are no characters or quests to undertake. As such, how you play is entirely up to you.
It all sounds interesting to us, but at this point, we're just a bit tired of waiting on a release date, which still happens to be the one all-important fact that's conveniently missing from this list. Are you keenly awaiting No Man's Sky, or is your patience wearing thin? Discover a hostile planet commonly known as the comments section below.

Im guessing they have pushed it back so it can release alongside P.Morpheus.
Im struggling to get hyped for this game however I understand it may just be difficult to convey it's funness so im not writing it off.
From what I have seen though the generated worlds all seem samey and don't really seem like they would hold my interest for long if exportation is the sole purpose.
At this point the release date is the only news I'm keeping an eye out for. I'm not reading one more article, or watching one more trailer on this game until I'm able to play it. I don't want to know more before going into it. Can't wait for this.
Hello Games Sean Murry said that he wanted the hype for No Man's Sky to die down. The reason behind that was that he feels that hype can be a double edged sword, and I have to agree.
He also stated that they purposely only show a select few planets for a reason. He did explain the reason behind that decision, but its slipt my mind.
Im not worried about a lack of story or a traditional multiplayer. Im just looking forward to being able to explore the vast universe that No Man's Sky has to offer and to carving out my own story and adventure.
This is a game that I have always wanted since I started gaming some 30 years ago. Just being about to fly through space and land on planets that no man/woman has been to before.
Having this as an optional Project Morpheus game is the icing on the cake.
People also tend to forget that their entire studio flooded at one point. I'm sure that pushed their timeline a bit.
@eLarkos I hope they aren't waiting to release the game along morpheus, but I'm extremely excited to experience it in vr. The reason the planets look similar is because Sean had expressed that he doesn't want to spoil anything for us, even the dark side of a planet and the large oceans.
I cannot wait for this game, it's gonna keep me busy for a long while.
Crimbo release
One thing I'm hoping at the moment is either an optional 3rd-person view for being on foot or a Borderlands 2 style inventory thing where you can see yourself in 3rd-person as you browse that menu. I just feel at the moment that the game seems quite soulless. All you see is random little animals and robots. Seeing other humans, even seeing yourself and perhaps being able to change your appearance, would bring some humanity to it and more emotional connectivity than just "I want to go over there to those semi-random hills". Like, if you help out a trader's ship do you actually get to see him or her? Will the universe feel inhabited (where appropriate) or just like a dead, cold void with the occasional bright green space rabbit hopping around?
Imagine Star Trek if the only planets they found had no sapient life at all. No Klingons, Vulcans, Romulans etc, just a vast empty planet with some 4-winged crows that moo. Okay, at first that might be pretty cool, but it's a quick novelty that can't match up to actually interacting with other intelligent beings or at least being aware of their presence and influence in the form of cities or populated space stations. A Babylon 5 where it's just 100 hours of Garibaldi running through a forest and scaring away luminescent pigs wouldn't be that great.
This is my most anticipated title. I think we get a release date at Paris along with a price drop. I hope they will say holiday season of this year with morpheus capability to come when the morpheus launches. This has the chance to be one of the best ever or a total flop. I am pinning my hopes on one of the best ever. ×fingers crossed×
I'm really only concerned for a release date at this point. The game is already on my radar, as I'm a huge space nut. One of the things that most disappointed me with the first Mass Effect was how half baked the planetary exploration was, and this game promises to do it right. I'm still extremely skeptical about the game though, it takes super computers to build realistic models of our universe and the PS4 is most certainly not anywhere near that category. I would absolutely love it if this game delivered on all its promises, but I doubt it will. Depending on the price point, I'll probably pick this up within the first week of release to see for myself how it delivers.
Hopefully a release date and price point is coming soon. :3
@AXEL314 I'm thinking it's the art style the leads to the sameyness though, not the objects or terrain. Im certainly not knocking it just yet though because as you said we have barely seen anything so perhaps things can be shaken up enough to keep things interesting. Looking forward to the game anyway.
I am just glad they chose an original art direction. To many Sci first games look identical, at least this shakes it up a bit imo.
Reading the blog, this is exactly what I wanted - a modern day Elite. I really hope it works!
Patiently waiting ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Can't wait for this... really want a release date.
Glad it's not a traditional MMO game... looking forward to exploring the universe without being dragged into combat every few minutes; you just know there would be groups of idiots who we simply intent on spoiling other people's games. Also don't care about Morpheus functionality as I'm not interested in it.
For me, this should be everything Elite was in my head all those years ago on the C64. The ability to land and properly explore every planet also puts it ahead of Elite Dangerous... for me, anyway.
Still hyped.
