With such memorable lines as "who's she talking to?" and "where's his Ghost?" all delivered in the most monotone way imaginable, Destiny's Ghost companion, voiced by Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, somehow didn't make a good enough impression to feature in the shooter's upcoming expansion, The Taken King. The floating artificial intelligence didn't featured in the title's previous two add-ons, either, so we reckon this decision has got a lot to do with contracts and heaps of green paper.
So, who's taking up the role of everyone's favourite little hunk of useless metal? Why, it's none other than video game voice acting extraordinaire Nolan North, who spoke with Game Informer. "They let me bring what I wanted to the role. You have to give it your own spin. For that reason, I specifically said I didn't want to hear anything that someone else had done, so that I didn't have some preconceived notion of what it has to be. Instead, I just gave it my stamp, and let them direct me accordingly." Sounds promising, but then again, it couldn't possibly get worse, could it?
What's more, North won't just be voicing your Ghost for the expansion. Bungie's went the whole way with this one, and has actually rerecorded all of the game's original dialogue alongside the man who brings Nathan Drake to life. With any luck, he'll bring some much needed spark to the sci-fi adventure's completely lacking storyline.
Is this good news for you? Were you sick of hearing Dinklage's uninspired performance? Do you think that Nolan North can do any better? Do everyone a favour and write a better script in the comments section below.

If Nolan North can somehow make the script seem decent, he'll be an instant hero.
This is great news. Hated the way Dinklage Over emphasised his 'O's. Can we get rid of the crappy Paul McCartney song too?
"Do you think that Nolan North can do any better?"
Nolan North can almost always do better.
I did a silent scream of joy when I read this. He will make the Ghost so much better. I'm hoping they let him add his own lines like he does in Uncharted. That'll ensure the Ghost has some entertaining lines.
I'm not gonna lie, I kinda miss Destiny, but don't at the same time. The gameplay was stellar, but the lacking story and grinding killed the whole experience for me. If the game didn't have a focus on grinding, I would have kept it.
"I think Dinklage had a good performance, actually. There was a subtlety to it that I think a lot of people didn't quite grasp."
You ALMOST had me.
Not even the incredible Nolan North can save the dull writing in Destiny. lol
Unless Bungie allows him to add personality and humor to the Ghost…
"Bungie's went the whole way with this one, and has actually rerecorded all of the game's original dialogue..."
THANK GOODNESS. The angry elf just wasn't doing it for me.
@WanderingBullet I remember reading that Bungie had flown in David Cross and Brian Posehn to humor up the ghost's dialog a bit. Apparently they didn't use any of what they'd written. I don't think their humor would fit Destiny anyway, so it's probably for the best. They should hire Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, see what they come up with.
@glassmusic Yeah, I've read about that as well. Can't remembered which mission it was (as you're flying in animation) but Dinklage spoke like Captain Kirk which I thought was funny because it had those weird pauses in between words.
Hiring Nolan North is great but it's little bit too late now as I won't be purchasing TTK DLC.
I loved how they paid for some famous actors and didn't bother to write them any lines or a story at all. Could be the easist job he's ever had unless Bungie get their act together on the story front.
Great game mechanics trapped in an endless grind with absolutely zero payoff
@carlos82 Agreed… They do weapon balancing every few months, but I don't see how for example nerfing the Auto Rifle to the point where it's pretty much not viable anymore is considered weapon balancing.
@ShogunRok
Not even God himself can save the script.
Dunno, I think Destiny has much more serious problems than Dinklage's performance, but some personality certainly wouldn't hurt.

lol. dinklebot. I'm naming my roomba Dinklebot.
I kind of feel sorry for Peter Dinklage though. I'm willing to bet that the script had more to do with his bad performance than anything else (and that all the good, funny lines were cut). And if Nolan North does a good job, it will only be because he has a ton of voice-acting experience to fall back on.
@LordBagardo I quite agree with you. I love Peter Dinklage as the ghost. His performance seemed like the kind of personality a little robot SHOULD have - a little cold and calculating, and yeah, even subtle. Why does the ghost have to be some wise-cracking funny man? Its a frickin' robot. Nolan North is great for Drake but I have a feeling I won't be happy with him in Destiny. I'm always in a minority when it comes to crap like this. At least Bungie is aiming to please the fans. That, I can certainly respect.
I didn't see a problem it's just a voice, I never watch TV it sux so I didn't even know who Peter Dinklage was until my mate's told me, it seem's to be more of a problem with who he is rather than the voice which is kinda dumb.
Aw I really enjoyed Dinklage. He brought a mature grown personality to an FPS. Now will I have to bear with more OTT screaming, swearing, stupid jokes and high pitched Amerikans (no offense to you guys)!!! eg. COD, Farcry, Borderlands, battlefield.... Dinklages non OTT voice acting was a nice change and bearable as Destiny requires a lot of repeat quests and grinding. If I have to hear a claptrap type 'ghost' repeating itself i'll go mad!
@bbq_boy
lol. I agree. I'm American and even I'm getting tired of hearing American voices.
As much as I like Nolan, hearing is voice in soooo many things, gets to be a bit much. No matter how hard I try to disconnect, I always picture Nathan Drake when I hear him. Is it just me?
@xMEADx mate, if you think Game of Thrones "sux" then you're missing out. Dinklage is one of the best things in it.
