Star Wars: Battlefront is going to ride the coattails of force fever all the way to the bank this Christmas, but DICE is being a little too presumptuous if it expects people to get excited over Blast mode. The playlist was teased earlier in the week and has been announced as part of an EA blog post today – but it's not exactly going to make your lightsaber stand on end.
In truth, it's just Team Deathmatch. "Blast pits the Rebel and Imperial factions against each other with intense ten versus ten battles," a spokesperson explained. "If your team reaches 100 kills, or are ahead when the 10-minute round is over, you've won. Immediate, addictive, and exciting until the very last kill – that is our ambition with Blast." Sounds innovative, guys.
Perhaps more interesting is the way that the action will be framed. You'll be battling in interior areas of Endor, as well as the Ice Caves of Hoth; we suspect that a lot of Star Wars: Battlefront's appeal is going to come from such iconic locations being recreated for the PlayStation 4. The maps won't just be smaller versions of bigger arenas either – they'll feel unique for the mode.
"Say you've just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth," lead level designer Dennis Brännvall expanded. "Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you'll definitely see a difference." Sadly, developer DICE is yet to release a trailer showing off these tweaks in action, but you'll almost certainly see something at Gamescom next week.

@Swiket Agreed.
Maybe not to you, but I'm excited about it. I know everyone wants them to announce a mode similar to galactic conquest, but that doesn't make this any less exciting.
@PSIN4MANT Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun. It just doesn't seem like something that needed to be announced with lots of fanfare, to be honest.
Honestly, I think this game will be a huge disappointment for everyone!
According to some every game is going to be a disappointment.
I think it'll do well especially with DICE's name attached to it, it's good to have & see different multiplayer games besides COD. Even though Black Ops 3 looks good, especially Zombies mode.
Unless this game is truely unique (which it doesn't look like so far) people will enjoy this for a short period then move on to the next shooter. It will sell a bucket load and reward the crappy AAA strategy.
Thank goodness for indies.
I demand Galactic Conquest mode!
I have my copy pre-ordered but not overly excited by this - I expected a TDM mode anyway and this is just confirmation - doubt I will get many hours on this mode...
I mean I kind of expected there would be some kind of team death match mode, what with all the first person shenanigans. I'm not underwhelmed by it. Every new game doesn't always have to redefine the genre. If it in any way adds its own little twist then thats enough for me. Sounds fun. Seems legit. Still gonna get this game.
I'm going to get the GOTY edition. All of the dlc in one convenient package (and this is EA we're talking about. I bet they'll milk this to death with dlc).
@get2sammyb If there was a new trailer showing gameplay, a little fanfare would have been just.
But there's not even a trailer.
They literally made a big deal out of saying this game will have team deathmatch.
I'm looking forward to the game, but hyping up team deathmatch as a new thing is something I find funny.
It's a little early for the Star Wars backlash, no? This time next year... that's another story.
They're merely telling us something that we expected, something that would have been missed if omitted. If you don't get why a squad of stormtroopers fighting another team indoors is great, then go watch Ep IV
@Zf_marbles I think so too, and I was excited for this
It's sad but this game started as a "10/10, must buy" to me, but after each news (no single player, no space battles, great names used on regular modes) it becomes more and more towards a "maybe".
@Frank90 @XFsWorld - Frank got it spot on, a 'maybe' is what it's sticking at for now but I can't see myself being overly impressed by it! Long way to go yet though
Sounds like warzon.....wait, why am I commenting its just team deathmatch?
Goddammit I want to love this game but I just can't. 20-player online? Battlefront 2 had 128 v 128. Along with that, there are barely any maps/planets, you can't pilot the AT-AT, no space battles, no Galactic Conquest. I would've preferred it if they just ported Battlefront 2 to PS4 in my opinion. Just so disappointing
I pre ordered this game and I cancelled after I saw E3 this game look's very casual, BFH all over again not falling for it twice.
@Anchorsam_9 I'd totally buy a port of Battlefront 2 for ps4! Spent almost as much time on that game if not more than on games like Skyrim and other rpgs.
I'm still excited for this though, if for nothing else than being star wars.
