1TB PlayStation 4 PS4 Europe Player Edition

E3 2015 is over, but the announcements aren't slowing. Sony confirmed earlier today that it will be releasing a new iteration of the PlayStation 4 in Japan later this month, which will eventually be rolled out globally at an undisclosed time. The revision is an upgrade of the original model, weighing 10 per cent less than the launch unit and consuming eight per cent less power. It also comes with a matte hard drive cover, promising a more "casual" look. Less of a dust magnet, too, we suspect.

As mentioned, there's no word on when this model will arrive overseas just yet, but SCEE has revealed a 1TB device for the European market. This will launch on 15th July – the same day as God of War III Remastered – and will be named the 'Ultimate Player Edition'. Interestingly, this will be based upon the original console's components, so it won't be lighter or less power hungry – and it will still have the shiny hard drive cover. All a bit confusing this, isn't it?

There's no word on a price just yet – retailers will apparently reveal that in the coming days – but it doesn't appear to be a replacement for the 500GB model, so we can only assume that it will cost more. There's no word on North America just yet, but we're trying to get in touch with SCEA to find out more. To be honest, one would assume that it has no plans to follow Europe or Japan's lead just yet, as this surely would have been an E3 press conference announcement otherwise.
