Earth Defense Force's eternal appeal will always be its less-than-stellar presentation. We're not sure whether we find XSEED Games' promise of better performance in the forthcoming PlayStation 4 instalment Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair appealing or not, then – but having read similar pledges for previous entries, we'll believe it when we see it.
Due out later this year, this is a reimagining of last year's PlayStation 3 outing Earth Defense Force 2025, with more content and even bigger bugs added in. For those not familiar with the franchise's gameplay loop, it can be summed up in just a few words: you must mow down as many enormous insects as you possibly can. The release includes full online and local co-op, meaning that you can indulge in the mindless mayhem with a few mates.
EDF! EDF! EDF!

the Ps3 version performance was... not good (and im being soft with it), hopefully PS4 extra power will give us a smooth experience, because the game itself its pretty solid
As someone who bought the Japanese version on release day, I can honestly say that it runs a heck of a lot smoother than the PS3 version, or even the 360 one.
Framerate still drops quite a bit when things get too crazy, but nowhere near the levels that were seen on last-gen hardware.
Also, you actually feel as if you've got a force backing you up now thanks to soldiers and tanks actually fighting with you and helping you push the bugs back.
The new lighting system is also a big step up and really helps to set the mood.
Can't wait to see what they will do with EDF 5 if it goes PS4 only.
Oh and I'll grab the EU release the day it comes out as well. I love this game that much!
Xseed stawp I have no more money.
