Whisper it, but the old Nintendo 64 collect-a-thons are some of this author's favourite games. Yooka-Laylee is guaranteed to be a real PlayStation 4 treat, then – and it's coming along alarmingly well. Despite only just completing its Kickstarter campaign, this off-screen footage from E3 2015 shows plenty of promise already.
Alright, there doesn't appear to be much to actually do at the minute, but the controls seem tight and the visuals are gorgeous. Plus, the studio already appears to have nailed that all-important token sound effect, so we suspect that we won't rest until we've gathered every single one.

My childhood is back.
Can't wait!
Do you suppose this game would still be playable if I taped a picture of a certain bear and bird to the center of my tv and pretended REALLY REALLY HARD?
I must admit I loved my N64 and the 3d Platformers and this is definitely a throwback to that era. One of the best gaming announcements from MS's E3 briefing was the Rare Replay (hmmmm - what does that say??) from my perspectives and this captures the Banjo Kazooie essence perfectly...
That roll, reminds me of Diddy riding DK...
I love it.
This song!!!
That music IS banjo kazooie!... Loooooove it!
This looks like Stitch (of Lilo & Stitch fame) riding Gex's head in a Banjo-Kazooie tribute band, with a similar enough name for the reference to work but different enough to avoid a lawsuit.
Maybe I'm too old, but this doesn't remind me of my childhood, it reminds me of the kind of game on the PS1 I completely ignored when I was about 14-16 and was playing Resident Evil, MGS, Tekken, Final Fantasy and Silent Hill.. All the Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Gex stuff totally passed me by. Though I have some younger friends who I'm sure would get a nostalgia attack from this game.
My childhood was 16-bit stuff, the kind of stuff now getting run into the ground by fedora-tipping hipsters in their tsunami of terrible indie games.
I'm a huge Banjo fan and I'm beyond excited for this game. However, these environments do look a little empty. I'm sure they will add more as time goes on since they just recently got funded. But deep down it is a little worrisome to me.
