We're not sure about you, but we're finding it pretty difficult to maintain hype for the PlayStation 4 port of Final Fantasy VII. It's probably because, y'know, an actual remake of the PSone classic was announced at Sony's E3 2015 press conference, which we guess renders the mentioned port a bit obsolete.
Nevertheless, Square Enix didn't skip the re-release at its presser. The Japanese publisher stated that the game is indeed still coming, but it's been delayed into winter 2015. Coincidentally, the company also said that it'll have more to show regarding the Final Fantasy VII Remake around that time, too.
Are you still excited to play this classic on your new-gen hardware? Show us your often hilarious polygons in the comments section below.

Honestly does anyone care about this now that Remaster has been announced?
@Tasuki I find it quite funny that the PS4 will (eventually) have two different versions of Final Fantasy VII on it. One old, one new. That just seems weird.
And I guess the FFVII port's a kinda cool idea for those who have never played it? Maybe? I know what you mean though - very hard to get excited about.
Don't you mean Winter 2016?
They are really taking their time though...To tell you the truth after the Remake was announced in the Sony conference I thought that the port would be released after the presentation.
I'm honestly more surprised it hasn't been cancelled yet.
I'll buy both just because.
@Tasuki Yeah..very much so! Really looking forward to the HD FF7. The remake is a vast vast vast amount of icing on the cake. Especially considering I don't think we'll see the remaster before the end of 2017.
I've spent £10-£15 on much less important things.
It's only like how Steam discounts the games in a series when a new one is announced or about to be released. I think FFVII is back on everyone's radar now, people will be more mindful of this port rather than just letting it pass by without thinking about it.
I got it a while ago on Steam, so I'm not that bothered other than the geeky appeal of having the achievements from it included in my PS account.
I have the ps one physical copy, the psn digital copy, the pc update and will still get the port ready for the remake to come along. Massive part of my teenage years this game
@Mrskinner Thing is, I kinda want to play it on my TV and not the Vita - as much as it rocks on that system.
The PS1 version looks so bad on a 50 inch screen so I'm happy to pay the asking price for the HD port. Still got 2 copies on disc and my PSN version, though
Edit: You mention you have the Steam version, I'm aware they had problems with the music initially, and then they patched in the correct tunes so it sounds like the PS1 version. Notice any problems with the current Steam version, as I guess that's more or less what will come to PS4?
@Mrskinner Yeah, same here. I played it while my friend watched when we were about 14. He now lives almost 100 miles away with 2 kids, but he said he's gonna come down and go and buy it with me, then we'll play at least the first few hours together before he goes back to changing nappies and getting peed on.
@Matroska Nice! 20 years is a long time huh! (see my edit above)
Comes with a demo of the remake 😀
I can dream can't I?
@Matroska same kind of thing for me. I was 16 or 17 first time round and My younger brother used to watch me play the game and we dont get to see each other much anymore. We will be having a reunion once the ps4 remake comes out!
@kyleforrester87 I didn't notice any problem, no. I think I got it after the music patch was released so I'm not sure how bad it was before. The bad thing about the PS4 version will be that it has the same, frankly crap translation of the PS version, "beacause", "this guy are sick", "attack when the tail's up" and so on. The Steam version does too, but there's an extensive fan patch to fix all that stuff.
I didn't really notice it as a kid, other than the tail error, but replaying it on Steam last year and it was pretty relentless. I mean, it didn't ruin my enjoyment at all but it's a shame to see such a great game tarnished with endless typos and incorrect translations.
@Mrskinner That's cool to hear - and I didn't realise the whole "reunion" link with FFVII until you just said it, haha.
@Matroska haha as in ff7 is as in life. Reunions are great things
@kyleforrester87 it wasnt the best before the patch but the music was fine after. The translations on the other hand! Still unintentionally funny
Wait. What. Square are still going ahead with the lacklustre port after announcing a remake. Dat gravy train...
@Mrskinner @Matroska I played it a couple of years ago and the translations obviously a bit flaky but I didn't find it so bad. Not a patch on FF9's, of course.
No better way to prep for the remake than to play the original
Do we know for sure though FF7 remake will be faithful? Will they include every minor characters full storyline or just the main story?
Will they even keep it menu turn based or go action based like 13?
I'm still super exvited, but w/ what little was shown yesterday some apprehension is creeping in.
@rjejr I really hope this remains faithful to the turn based system. Im not the biggest of fans with the live action based FF games of late.
@rjejr The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear. But let us embrace whatever it brings. For they are coming back.
@kyleforrester87 - OK, now I'm scared. If it requires Morpheous I'm going to hurt somebody.
FF VII, King's Quest, Doom, the X-files, Twin Peaks, Mad Max,....a lot of old friends seem to be making a comeback.
Keep hoping for a remake of the Ultima and Ultima Underworld games...or even Temple of Apshai (not necessarily with ASCII characters)
All that was missing from e3 to be the most mind blowing ever was half life 3 haha
Just throw it on the disc as extra content for the 20th anniversary remake square enix, most people don't care for another port of ff7 there's many other ways to play it and the best way is arguably the pc version with tifas bootleg mod the ps4 port was never going to be better than that and most will just play it on vita or ps3 anyway
How can they remake ff 7 when in the past the reason was it was IMPOSSIBLE to make HD remakes of the towns?
How do you delay a game that JUST got announced!? Also article writers you can stop calling this gen PS4 hardware "next gen".
@Wesker Nice pick up, I read the article and thought the same.
@rjejr if they decide to make ff7 live action combat.... That isn't worth thinking about, how stupid are Square-Enix :/
@Compudoc Bards tale is also coming out
@Hero-of-WiiU Its not the remake they are delaying, it is the PC port they announced at Playstation experience end of last year.
My only wish from Square Enix now would be a remake of Secret Of Mana. A man can dream cant he?! haha
@Hero-of-WiiU @themcnoisy Yes..
FF7 HD - Winter 2015
FF7 Remake - 20XX
@Mrskinner this needs to happen! Love secret of mana. Hate the later games in the series.
@kyleforrester87 along with the typos, don't forget that they tell you the incorrect way to beat the first boss. They tell you the opposite - to attack the boss when its tail is up.
@ztpayne7 Haha, you know you're right, I've played that section a hundred times and only just realised. I think, looking back, I assumed they were saying it because they were thinking "Utoh, his tails up and he's gunna attack us, hit him to stop him" which obviously resulted in a counter-attack that they didn't anticipate. Didn't actually stop to think it could be a translation error.
@ztpayne7 It is the one game i would love to replay on todays hardware. And you are right, the sequels were garbage. But that original game, AMAZING!
Yes j will be buying this. First time round on playstation I never got past the first red scorpion boss, this time I'm clued up with how these games work !
