We Are Doomed. No, not literally – that's just the name of one of the games due out on the PlayStation 4 this week. In truth, it's a bit of a slow week for new software releases compared to what we've gotten used to – but then, who needs anything more than Mortal Kombat X anyway? Exactly.

Pick of the Week: Mortal Kombat X

Finish him! That'll be the sound exuding from thousands of consoles today, as Mortal Kombat X winds up on Sony's next-gen system. A bigger and better version of NetherRealm's reboot from a few years back, this latest edition promises an even sillier story featuring the sons and daughters of some of the series' most popular characters.

It's the fatalities that are once again the star of the show here, though – and Ed Boon and crew have definitely upped the ante. From not-so-subtle The Shining references to straight up attacks on pop culture, the developer's really outdone itself this time. Just don't fall for its exploitative microtransactions, and you'll have a grand time uncovering them all.
