Wasteland Game of the Year Edition PS4 PlayStation 4

We're not sure how many Game of the Year gongs Wasteland 2 actually won, but that's not stopped inXile Entertainment from using the disingenuous moniker for the PlayStation 4 port of its Kickstarted role-playing game. A follow-up to Brian Fargo's not-quite forgotten favourite, the sequel puts you in control of four Desert Rangers, who are tasked with – and we quote – "keeping the peace in the post-apocalyptic Arizona desert". No small task, then.

While you may be thinking that this sounds mightily familiar, it's perhaps worth noting that the original Wasteland inspired Fallout – and not the other way around. This successor – which has been modernised, of course – stays true to the spirit of the original, so its timely arrival on Sony's next-gen system this summer could prove both educational and entertaining. Oh, who are we kidding? There are freakin' irradiated honey badgers that need busting, for goodness' sake.

This updated version will run on ubiquitous game engine Unity 5, and will include a bunch of improved visual effects, as well as all-new character models. It'll also boast some fancy-pants lighting techniques, if you're into that sort of thing, in addition to some gameplay and voice acting tweaks. Above all else, though, it'll be playable on the PS4, which is pretty nifty news – especially when it seemed like it was skipping Sony's system earlier in the week.
