We pondered recently whether the PlayStation 3 was on its last legs, and while it's not over until Kaz Hirai says so, we're starting to see third-party publishers skip the faithful format. Hot on the heels of Dragon Quest Heroes and Dying Light, the hotly anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront is the latest game to gloss over a last-gen release.
When asked about platforms on Twitter, an EA representative said that the DICE developed escapade will be available "holiday 2015 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC". This is obviously bad news for those yet to upgrade, but it's exciting for next-gen owners, as it means that the title should push the hardware, er, harder.
Do you think that this forthcoming foray will have the force, or are you a rebel that couldn't care less? Come up with some better Star Wars puns in the comments section, because they're definitely not this author's forte.

The chosen One
GOOD. done with cross-gen shenanigans.
I'm really hoping DICE use their knowledge with Battlefield to create a stellar game, and i'm optimistic they will. I really hope they don't just create Star Wars Battlefield however.
Very good.
@eLarkos I think Star Wars Battlefield is absolutely what you're going to get.
@AyeHaley while I love current gen exclusivity, I am perfectly happy with cross gen. What I cant stand is developing for last gen exclusively, like Assassins Creed and (to be fixed Tuesday) Borderlands.
I am looking forward to this game. Some of the leaked images have looked very authentic to the Star Wars universe. I know this could end up being Star Wars: Battlefield but I hope they redesign the HUD so the link isn't that obvious. I do think Dice are in a difficult position by taking on something like Star Wars. You know whatever they do, for some it won't be good enough or 'true' enough but I hope its not bug riddled like BF4 and fun to play.
@get2sammyb I think deep down I know.
Figured as much. The thought that it might be on PS3 never even occurred to me. Definitely a good thing though. I think this is gonna be great. Just imagine what they'll do with all that current-gen power.
Star Wars Battfield!! We can only hope
@get2sammyb
Which isn't exactly a bad thing. I just want a good story mode and decent multiplayer.
I am just glad it's not just a Xbox/PC Exclusive really. Oh & hopefully EA don't mess it up & we get a really good Star Wars game + Why can't someone make a game of the Original Film. I have always wanted to play that
This is a very good news
Good news for next gen sales but kinda of feel for the ones that can't afford one. As this game as been on such a big delay it should of been released on last gen. But I feel this game will top the charts when it's released.
Holiday 2015 is 2 years after the new consoles release, it's about time really, especially for "sort of new" IP like this and Batman.
Let me know when Madden, MLB The Show, FIFA and COD stop supporting PS3, then we'll talk about PS3 being "dead".
At least MLB The Show 2015 is releasing on PS3, and I'm sure it will sell plenty.

It had to happen sooner or later.
@rjejr
You remember when you quoted "that guy", Well here we again!
@Punished_Boss_84 - Sorry you feel that way, but I'm standing by this one.
PS3 is stilling in the US and Japan - the console, not the games. There were several different bundles on store shelves this Christmas for $199, Disney Infinity 2.0 (which I purchased), Lego Batman 3, and possibly Last of Us or GTAV I forget. But the console was still selling. Is it the newest or the greatest, no it's not. But it's still "alive". I wouldn't be surprised if this holiday is it's last hurrah, but it isn't dead yet, it's still getting too many good games.
MGSV:TPP is coming out on it for crying out loud, how is a console getting the newest game in the MGS franchise "dead"?
@rjejr
"MGSV:TPP is coming out on it for crying out loud, how is a console getting the newest game in the MGS franchise "dead"?"
Is "that guy" not Sammy? The exact question I posed as well, well I said a few months after Persona 5 (which is probably out after MGSV).
@Punished_Boss_84 - I'm refraining from all further discussion on the topic of the PS3's death until we find out if we get a MGSV bundle or not. I'm pretty sure PS4 will, unless Microsoft buys a "bundle exclusive" which I suppose could happen. PS3 also got Destiny and Lego Hobbit bundles last year. Which makes me wonder if people who bought the Lego Hobbit bundle are mad no 3rd movie DLC?
Anyway if there's a PS3 MGSV bundle this year then PS3 isn't quite dead yet, but if it misses out on a bundle to PS4 I'll say a eulogy. After I'm done playing Godzilla.
@rjejr
It's also getting MK X. PS3, 360 as well, aren't finished yet, but imo that's not necessarily a good thing. I know it sucks for people who haven't or don't want to upgrade, but time moves on. PS3 and 360 both had nice, long shelf lives, now it's time they fade into the sunset.
@Gamer83 - I'm ok w/ PS3 fading into the sunset, it is time, I just don't think it has yet. Next March could be a different story, but that's still a year away.
And PS3 just got Vue this week. Sony could have made that PS4 only if PS3 is so dead. And DBXV seems to have done well just recently. Maybe PS3 isn't kicking it like a Rockette, but it's still upright in a rocking chair enjoying the golden years of retirement.
