EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour PS4 PlayStation 4

The eve of St. Paddy's Day seems like a perfect time to announce that Northern Irish swing king Rory McIlroy will be replacing Tiger Woods as the face of EA Sports' popular PGA Tour series. The four-time Major champion will make his PlayStation 4 debut this June in – take a deep breath – EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. Yes, that's the name that the publisher's gone for – and yes, there should be a colon in there somewhere, shouldn't there?

The 25-year-old star – who supposedly signed a $250 million deal with Nike a couple of years ago – said that he was very "proud and humbled" to see his face and name on the game. "I really hope that people enjoy the game and I'm very glad that I can be a part of it. This is a great honour, and something that I couldn't even dream of growing up playing the sport."

This entry will mark the series' transition to EA's famously flaky Frostbite engine, which promises to remove annoying loading times between holes. As you may remember from E3 last year as well, there will be fantasy courses, meaning that real-world locations such as Augusta will be accompanied by more outlandish environments such as a battleship. The jury's still out on this, then, but we won't be clubbing it with our 4 Wood until we've seen more.
