Dragon Quest Heroes is off to a fine start in Japan, as sales figures for its first week on the market have been revealed. Square Enix's action role-playing game sold a rather staggering 594,749 copies across both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3. Although it's worth noting that the colourful release sold best on Sony's ageing console.
Meanwhile, PlayStation exclusives God Eater 2: Rage Burst and The Order: 1886, both of which stormed the top five last week, fell to fourth and twentieth place, respectively. Dragon Ball XenoVerse also hung around the top 20.
Sony's newest console did well, though, topping the charts and almost doubling last weeks sales, while the Vita charted in second place. As we said last week, it's a pivotal time for the PS4 in Japan, with big titles hitting the machine one after another. Again, though, it's a little worrying that most of the expected heavyweights are also launching on the PS3, but nevertheless, things are looking a little brighter for the home console in its native country.

46K PS4? Brilliant
Damn! PS4 is doing amazingly well considering Japan's market status, thanks to DQH this week. The continued staying power of Xenoverse vs BOZ is also quite telling.
Stomps on Nintendo, at least just this week. Software sales are still mixed though. Things are kinda looking up for PS4 now eh.
Imagine what the numbers will be when Persona 5 releases.
God Eater is clearly a money maker, I have no idea why they refuse to port them over. :/
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi this will begin the momentum for ps4 to dominate Japan. As you know the graphics and controller are just worlds apart from last gen. They are a core region and the sooner the companies go 'all in' on the ps4 the better for us ps4 owners over here.
@themcnoisy
What's concerning though is they won't go all-in if the last-gen versions of games keep outselling current gen. That's one of the trends I like over here in the US is at least it seems like PS4 versions of cross-gen games consistently outsell PS3 versions and more often than not X1 versions outsell 360 versions.
@NomNom
Yup, I'd love to see God Eater 2 released in the West. If we can only get one verison I'd prefer it for PS4 but I'd gladly take it for Vita as well. I just want to play it.
@Gamer83 yep, it makes the decision to launch ps4 in Japan ages after our country's launch seem like a masterstroke. Only time will tell if the surge continues - I think it will.
@themcnoisy
The PS4 does have a nice lineup over there. Even if you can some the games for PS3, Vita or both as well, the lineup still looks great so I'd hope PS4 sales continue the positive momentum.
