If you've been enjoying Destiny on PlayStation 3, then you'll soon have to sacrifice the ability to compare items in your vault after the title's next update allows for more storage space.
"In the case of the Vault expansion, it became clear that we would be pushing very limited memory constraints on older generation hardware," Bungie states on its Destiny blog. It continues: "We had a choice: leave the Vault as-is, or find some kind of compromise to enable it safely. We weighed the options, with player feedback in mind, and decided to move forward with the expansion by disabling the item comparison feature within the Vault on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."
It's a disappointing compromise, but it's also a bit of a reality check. After all, the PS3 is almost a decade old, and developers can't possibly support it much longer - not if they're keen to explore the more advanced hardware of the PS4.
In Destiny's case, it's going to be interesting to see how Bungie continues to develop its creation on Sony's ageing console, especially if memory troubles are popping up already. Do you play the sci-fi shooter on PS3? Jump the last-gen ship in the comments section below.

They stripped back the story, so might as well continue the trend exclusively on last gen.
@Punished_Boss_84 This.
Strange that this news item adresses "Sony's ageing console", while the bungie blogpost clearly states an equal treatment of both last-gen consoles: XBox360 AND PS3...
@Mithrandir We're a PlayStation-only site, so we're only going to keep it one sided. We did include this quote though: "We weighed the options, with player feedback in mind, and decided to move forward with the expansion by disabling the item comparison feature within the Vault on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."
@ShogunRok Ok, explanation accepted (and yes, it IS ageing indeed!)
@Mithrandir Almost 10 years old! It's crazy!
@ShogunRok
It hasn't got its retirement party just yet.
@BLPs It's a RAM issue
@BLPs I would think if they considered removing a menu of all things. This was the best option with the least compromise. Probably gonna get worse with the bigger updates.
@BLPs To be fair, the PS3 has - by today's standards - an absolutely horrific 256MB of system RAM. The PS4 has 8GB, so there's next to no chance of Destiny ever exceeding that.
@BLPs The issue when moving from next gen to last gen there will always be compromise. Bungie did mention trying to push the limits with last Gen so they may have overdid it, and like @ShogunRok said they're good when it comes to the PS4. Guess they just made a bad decision with this last gen/PS3.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi This, but if memory serves me right it sold terribly on last gen. but my memory is shocking, a bit like the ps3.
